(Y/n)'s body was tender as she stared at the ceiling of her room, her mind wandering back to the dream. She couldn't deny the light it portrayed Grimmjow, even if it wasn't the catlike form she knew in memory. Her constant encounters with him coming together into a small story that made him look endearing. She pulled herself to sit up, listening to the quiet, bird song filled air coming from past her door and windows. "You're finally awake," her head slowly turned, Shunsui seated at the small table in the room.
She stared blankly before moving from the bed, Shunsui in front of her holding her there. "You're still injured."
"I'm sorry," she muttered. "I really did break a heart while I was gone." He tilted his head a bit as he knelt, looking her in the eye.
"It's to be expected," he nodded slowly, "You're a beautiful woman."
"Mines split in two," she snifffled, staring at the floor between them even as it blurred. "I'm sorry." Silence came again and (Y/n) began to panic, her hands shaking. Shunsui leaned down more, his face against her shoulder as his arms wrapped around her.
"Would the other man love you as you are now," he asked softly.
"No," she hiccuped. She pushed her face against his shoulder, carefully grabbing at the coat on his back. "No, he wouldn't."
"Is he here," something soft pressed against her shoulder after the question, making her shiver.
"No," she sniffled.
"What about the other man," (Y/n) tightened her grip on his coat. This was worse than returning to the Soul Society. This made the dream seem more nightmarish as it raged in her head.
"You're here," she hiccuped. "Right next to me like always. Even when I'm at my worst." The soft thing pressed against the bandages on her neck and she shivered again.
"You are the same person, even at your worst," he whispered. She wrapped her arms around him completely, hiding her face in his neck as he reciprocated her action. His hand gently pet her head, his fingers running through her hair, "You're the same and I'm not leaving even if you can't make up your mind."
"I'm sorry," (Y/n) hiccuped.
"Hey, you don't need to apologize," he chuckled lightly. "Besides, you're hurt and you shouldn't be crying so hard over something we can simply talk about."
"I'm okay," (Y/n) sniffled. Shunsui let go and shifted back a bit as she rubbed her eyes. "What happened? Was Amagai taken care of? What about Kibune?"
"Everything is fine," Shunsui laughed softly. "The girls are worried about you and you've received a request for a tea ceremony with Lady Rurichiyo. You should reassure them that you're okay, (Y/n)."
"What about the old man," she asked slowly. His face softened as she stared with a semi hopeful expression. No matter how much she butter heads in the past, he was still the last family she had.
"Alive and well," Shunsui replied. "Old man Yama wouldn't go down so easily from someone who didn't know the full situation." (Y/n) smiled a bit and nodded slightly, hiccuping and rubbing her eyes. "You did a good job in your investigation, by the way. The credit went to you."
"I didn't do much," she sniffled.
"Your notes were recovered and with the undeniable truth brought to light your investigation was the most up to date information."Soi Fon slammed her hand on the table, her flare ever present as (Y/n) stopped the tea from falling over. "Why reprimand you," she cried. (Y/n) leaned back. While the credit did go to her, the courts had a different idea. She was under house arrest in all technicality, stuck between home and her office while she was investigated by a third party.
"Because I did something illegal and my grandfather shouldn't suffer anymore because of it," (Y/n) muttered.
"This is stupid," Soi Fon sniffed.
"By the way, what was that face you made at Miss Shihoin," (Y/n) raised an eyebrow as Soi Fon's face dusted a rosy pink.
"It-it doesn't matter," she sniffed.
"You have to tell me. It's not fair that she gets that sort of expression," (Y/n) sighed. "Meanwhile, I'm stuck with that angry look all the time."
"Everything you do is infuriating though," Soi Fon cried.
"Hey, I get results. Don't judge the method," (Y/n) stared at the door when it opened, Hitsugaya standing with Rangiku behind him.
"Captain Soi Fon," Hitsugaya was a bit caught off guard as Soi Fon stared at him over the back of the couch. "I didn't realize you and Third Seat Yamamoto were so close."
"What can I do for you, Captain," (Y/n) stood up and went to get more cups from behind her desk.
"I'm the one conducting your investigation," he replied curtly. (Y/n) stopped for a second, letting out a breath as she continued.
"I guess our break is over, Captain Soi Fon," she nodded.
"We can come back if we're interrupting," Hitsugaya nodded.
"No, we were having," (Y/n) set the new cups down as Soi Fon finished hers and stood, "girl talk? Is that what it'd be called?"
"Yes," Soi Fon snorted. "You're training with me today back at your estate. Don't forget." She walked past the other two, side glancing with the cruelest gaze she could muster before shutting the door behind her.
"How is recovery going," Rangiku asked.
"It's quick thanks to Captain Unohana's care," (Y/n) nodded as she poured them tea. Hitsugaya sat down, crossing his legs as Rangiku sat next to him with papers in her arms.
"Then we'll start with simple questions," Hitsugaya didn't waste any time, staring at the cup in front of him closely without moving. "What's you're occupation?"
"Third seat of Squad One in the Thirteen Court Guard Squads," she replied.
"What is the name of your zanpakuto?"
"Kamaitachi is a zanpakuto of triplets," the questions went on like this for a little while. Simple things that were mind numbing. She groaned after, her head falling back and quickly straightening back up because of the bandages. "Captain, I conducted the investigation on my own. Their movements caused a choke on spiritual product distribution and there had been reports of assassination attempts against Lady Kasumioji Rurichiyo that extended to the world of the living."
"I didn't ask," he sniffed. "You seem to have an attitude problem, Yamamoto, and it won't help you."
"My attitude problem is because of your stick in the mud behavior, Captain," (Y/n) retorted. "I never warranted your aggression."
"You're right," he stated.
"I get you- what," (Y/n) blinked as she stared at the boy.
"You're right," he repeated. "You didn't deserve that aggression and I was in the wrong." (Y/n) stared before chuckling softly and leaning back on the couch. "What?"
"You look too angry to be apologizing," she replied jokingly. "Younger people shouldn't glare so much. Their faces will get stuck."
"Don't mock me," he growled.
"I'm not. You and Captain Soi Fon have the same problem," (Y/n) shrugged and sipped at her tea. "Cute faces shouldn't scowl."
