(Y/n) rubbed her head as she stared at Orihime. The girl had come by unexpectedly, a redhead in tow that made (Y/n) do a double take. "Lieutenant," Rangiku nodded to (Y/n) when she spoke up.
"We just came to visit," Orihime chuckled.
"Orihime wanted to share some food too! What a sweet girl, huh," Rangiku giggled.
"You do know I make my own food, right," (Y/n) sighed.
"Oh, sorry for bothering you then," Orihime started to turn and Rangiku held her firm.
"Don't be rude, (Y/n)," Rangiku chuckled. "Let us in. We can have a girl's night!" (Y/n) stared and sighed, stepping to the side to let the two in as she felt around.
"What is a captain doing outside," she finally asked.
Rangiku stopped and poked her head back out, "See captain! Why don't you come inside?"
"I refuse," (Y/n) looked outside to captain Hitsugaya, taking in the small boy.
"I made ramen," (Y/n) pitched. The boy turned his head, glaring at her with a gaze that could kill. "And if you have qualms with taking up residency for a while, then just pay me back when we get to the soul society."
"Were you sent to help with the arrancar issue," he asked.
"No, I'm on a research mission for Captain Yamamoto," (Y/n) replied. "I think you should come inside and eat something. Don't let my oh so generous hospitality go to waste." Hitsugaya stepped down from the rail and walked inside, Rangiku staring at (Y/n) in bewilderment.
"You have a way with people for sure," she laughed.
"It isn't that," (Y/n) sighed.
"(Y/n), your place is a wreck," Orihime cried out. (Y/n) rubbed her head as she walked near the table.
"It happens," she sighed. "Did you really just come over to eat together or is there something else?"
"You're colder than the captain," Rangiku pouted.
"Since you're here, I'm recruiting you to help with the arrancar," Hitsugaya stated. "Had I known you were already deployed I would have requested it along with your original papers." (Y/n) stared at him before walking to the kitchen, putting a kettle on and making an extra bowl of food. If even a captain was here, it had to be bad, the situations growing worse and worse after everything she had caught up on since she left.
"Who else," she called.
"Ikkaku, Renji, Rukia, and Yumichika are here as well," he answered. (Y/n) set the food down in front of him in silence, the other two digging into what Orihime had brought along.
"Then you shouldn't need my assistance," (Y/n) sighed.
"We need everyone's help. We don't know how bad it's going to get," Hitsugaya stared at the bowl and sighed, starting to pick at the noodles under the pork.
"It'll get bad," (Y/n) nodded. "But not bad enough you need me."
"How do you know," Rangiku chirped loudly. The suspicion made the table quiet as (Y/n) stood there, unable to come up with words. She had just gotten over Captain Soi Feng's suspicion, it was careless of her to let more people become like that. Especially since she barely knew these two.
"A hunch," (Y/n) shrugged. "They're just stronger hollows right?"It wasn't her waking up naturally and she caught on to that when she realized her zanpakuto was in her hand. The faint, familiar pressure wasn't far off but it was close enough to take one flash. (Y/n) pushed her gigai off, speeding out the window and stopping in the air. Five energies were spreading out, going after certain points. "Who's bigger," (Y/n) muttered.
"Oi, (Y/n)," Yumichika stopped in front of her, a phone in his hands. "Did you get the notification?"
"No, I don't carry those," (Y/n) scowled a bit and took a breath. "What's the situation."
"It seems the arrancar have shown up," he nodded. (Y/n) sighed and grabbed Yumichika's arm before flashing to Ikkaku. "My hair!"
"Just relax, help him while I go at the biggest one," (Y/n) snapped. It was the most familiar, an answer to a small fear that had started to grow in the pit of her stomach. She flashed again, stopping short at striking blue hair and a snarling grin. The man slowly looked up at her, the grin somehow growing wider.
"If it isn't the rodent," he snorted. "Why do you look so different?"
"I'm not obliged to answer," (Y/n) flashed forward, his eyes wide as the blades met his arm. The rush felt familiar as it took a moment for the shock from the impact to spread in a loud boom.
"(Y/n)," he asked. He slowly started to laugh as she jerked back from the sound of her name on his tongue. "You got weak." (Y/n) dropped the two extra blades, slamming her forehead down against his. He lost a few feet of altitude, (Y/n) balancing a blade on her feet as she looked down at him.
"Why are you here," she snapped. He stared and looked around while he gave a soft hum.
"I wanted to see that weak excuse of a soul eater Aizen is interested in," he snickered. He stopped short and looked over again, "You know him, don't you rodent?" (Y/n)'s head filled with thoughts of the bone covered panther, the pressure he let off too similar to ignore.
"Grimmjow," she asked. This punk of an arrancar was who the hollow inside her wanted to fight? He grinned widely at her, his movement almost hard for her to see as he flashed in front of her, their noses an inch from touching.
"(Y/n)," he hummed. Her body was stiff before the back of his hand slammed across her face, sending her into one of the sky scrapers. The blue in his eyes seemed to sear themselves into the back of her eyelids as a headache started to take hold.
"Let me at him!"
"You stay," she snapped quietly. The collar of her jacket was grabbed and she was pulled forward.
"Where's the bite? How are you so slow? Did this place make you weaker," he sneered. "Where's my rival? Huh? Put on the mask!"
"Bankai," (Y/n) stabbed into his arm, the thin rope wrapping around her arms before she kicked him back by his chest. He grunted, his grin manic as she launched forward. She activated shunko, the burn non existent as she flashed around him. She itched to be rid of him, to use her zanpakuto's ability to its fullest but it had been so long. She had never really needed it, the ability one that made her grimace at the principality.
But in all truth she had promised not to with her grandfather, not unless she was in a dire situation or had permission. Her stomach met his shin and she coughed before wrapping the plate around his waist. Her foot met his jaw as she flipped over his leg, pulling him with it and slamming him into another building. He launched forward, keeping a grip on the top as she was wrenched forward into his advance. She twisted around his fist, bringing her lower body forward and slamming her heel into his nose only to meet his other hand.
(Y/n) was thrown down, her back hitting the pavement and making a crater. His feet met her chest, a disappointed look in his eyes as he let out a sigh. "Here I thought you belonged with us," Grimmjow muttered. "I'd have taken you back with me. You'd have belonged there and we could have fought together for once." It hurt; something outside of the physical pain hurt because of the tone he was using.
