(Y/n) didn't bother to go to the manor today, sitting at the bar in a restaurant many other soul reapers frequented. Shunsui had invited her out of the blue even though this wasn't a place she normally visited in her spare time. She couldn't refuse him though, the invite making her think about everything he'd done for her. A small bag hung on her shoulders, a small gift she had picked out on the way there. The bar tender stared at her silently as she fidgeted, playing with the hem of the bag, "Are you going to order anything?"
"Not just yet. I'm waiting for someone," she replied.
"Hey, (Y/n)," (Y/n) turned and stared at Renji who waved at her. She sighed and stood up, walking to the table he shared with two other lieutenants. "You don't come here often."
"I know," she hummed. "What are you three doing?"
"Izuru is having a hard time adjusting to his new captain," Renji patted the blond man's back and (Y/n) stared at him with a raised eyebrow.
"Last I heard, Third Division was doing a bit better because of him," she noted quietly.
"They are," Izuru roared. He was up in her face in seconds, a pink dust covering his cheeks and alcohol in his breath. (Y/n) slammed her forehead into his, sending him into the table as the other two stared at her.
"Don't do that," she warned. Izuru glared up at her in the most pathetic way possible as the other lieutenant glanced at the door.
"Speak of the devil," he stated. (Y/n) followed his gaze, giving a small bow to them to meet up with Shunsui who had Captain Amagai in tow.
She stopped and looked at Izuru, "You are a leader. Don't let someone else's lead interfere with how you handle things." She turned and walked up to Shunsui's side, sliding the bag into his shoulder without a word. He stared down at her and chuckled softly, patting her back.
"Captain Amagai, let me introduce you to third seat Yamamoto, (Y/n)," he hummed.
"It's nice to meet you,"Amagai smiled and held his hand out to her. She cautiously took it and returned the smile. He felt off and it was starting to feel like he really didn't want her to interfere with whatever the two were going to talk about.
"Maybe you shouldn't have invited me," (Y/n) turned to Shunsui a bit, watching him blink at the gift in the bag.
"Oh, don't say that," he laughed. He had a pleading look in his eye, one that begged her not to leave him alone with the other captain. "Third seat Yamamoto has very good insight, Amagai. She's never lead me wrong before."
"Is that so? I'm interested in your opinion then," Amagai nodded. The three took a seat at a table in a closed off room, (Y/n) perched next to Shunsui as he toyed with the handles of the bag. (Y/n) poured the sake as the two started to talk, her mind wandering to what Shunsui would think about the gift in the bag. He had made an excited face but nothing was said, maybe because another captain was around and would ask questions.
"What do you think, (Y/n)," she jumped and stared at Shunsui, a soft smile on his face. "The divisions could be a bit closer, couldn't they?"
"It's a touchy subject. Each one has its own ideals and organizations like that tend to struggle with complete unity," she nodded.
"But we should have Captain Ukitake with us next time," Shunsui patted her head, his hand lingering in his hair as he pulled it away. "I don't like taking the lead on things." (Y/n) blinked at the gold band now in his wrist, a smile growing. It wasn't an expensive gift, a bland, thin band of gold with no jewels to sport, but it came as a pair. She had hidden hers under her jacket sleeve. A toast was suggested, Amagai eyeing the saucer in front of him uneasily before throwing it back. It took less than five seconds for him to fall backwards, completely intoxicated and Shunsui let out a small complaint. Her waist was grabbed and she was pulled back in her chair, a chin resting on (Y/n)'s head casually. "I'm missing all the chances to see you in your kimonos," he huffed. The lunch was decent after Amagai was taken back to the squad three barrack, leaving her alone with Shunsui to finish eating and drinking. They caught up for an hour before he had to go back to work, I small kiss to her forehead the thank you she received for the gift as he walked out.
"There isn't much to see. The colors are still a little bright for me and it's not as complimenting," (Y/n) patted his hands, her face heating when he gave a small squeeze.
"Why are you at work? You're still technically on leave, aren't you," he asked.
She rubbed her temple and gave a small nod, "Yes but I think better at a desk. There's something weird going on and I'm trying to get to the bottom of it. Not to mention Kurosaki was reported seen at the manor."
"Is that a bad thing," Shunsui asked. She glared at him as he released her waist to lean on her desk.
"Has it ever been a good thing when that boy is involved," she snorted. "All I've seen are battles when he's around and they're never good."
"That's not very fair of you to say," he chuckled.
"It's only the truth," (Y/n) stared at his wrist and put her chin in her palm. "I didn't know what to get. You're very simple."
"Being simple isn't a bad thing," Shunsui kissed the top of her head and gently lifted her hand. He pulled her sleeve down slowly before he chuckled at the similar band on her wrist, this one smaller. "What's it for?"
"I just," she let out a breath and pulled her hand away, taking the bracelet off to fidget with it. "I wanted to get you something. As a thank you for everything."
"You don't have to thank me for anything," Shunsui stated. "I've been doing what I wanted to."
"And I wanted to thank you for it," she studied him. His smile was small, not the playful smirk he had but something gentle that complimented the overly intelligent look in his eyes. "You don't know how much it means to me. You're ruining your reputation just being involved with me or at least getting unnecessary obstacles."
Shunsui leaned down before she could continue, planting a small kiss on her lips and making her skin turn the shade of a tomato, "Don't call yourself an obstacle, please. You're the farthest thing from it."
"If you say so," she muttered. He placed his forehead against hers, holding the side of her face as he smiled. Those butterflies were back in her stomach, her eyes closed as his thumb gently rubbed her cheekbone. "I can't focus anymore."
"Good," Shunsui chuckled.
