Chapter 4 - His name is James

I walk into the OR just as Clint has been put under anaesthesia. Meredith is there by my side for support and a helping hand. I am really nervous; I am never usually this nervous. Right here goes nothing

'Are you ready?' Meredith asks handing me the scalpel

'Yep, now remember when you put your mind to it anything is possible.' I say it before every surgery

'Can I ask you a question?' Meredith asks

'Of course'

'You know how you always say when you put your mind to it anything is possible. Where did it come from?'

'My mom used to say it all the time when I was younger and then when she passed away, me and my dad used to say it to each other.'

'I'm sorry'

'Don't apologise. But I always say before surgery as a little thanks to my mom and also a prayer that everything goes well'

'That is a nice sentiment. It is like when Derek says 'it is a beautiful day to save lives''

'Yeah, where does that come from?'

'God knows, I should really ask. So, what is going on with your other half?' Oh god I really don't want to talk about this

'Not a lot I haven't seen him for a while but we are meeting up tomorrow lunch' I answer trying to avoid the topic completely

'Where are you going?'

'I don't know it is a surprise' Bucky wanted to surprise me; he really is the sweetest

'That is sweet'

'I know, he would never admit it but he is a proper romantic.'

'What is his name again? I forgot' Don't say Bucky. Don't say Bucky/ Don't say Bucky

'Seriously your mind is like a sieve, I wouldn't mind but you have met him. His name is James.'

'Just because I have met him doesn't mean I remember his name, plus that was quite a few months ago. I wouldn't recognize him now.'

'Well, he is picking me up tomorrow from ours so you will see him then.'

'True.'

'Right, I believe that Mr Barton is all fixed. How are his vitals holding?' I ask finally changing the topic

'Good and steady.' Meredith smiles

'Great that's get this wrapped up. I will go and update the family. Let me know if anything changes'

'Of course' Meredith says as I leave the OR to go and tell the Avengers about Clint
