The fire was slowly beginning to die down, only small crackles could be heard from the still-hot-wood. Gregory's brown eyes slowly opened, though groggily, as a yawn escaped his lips. "Good morning, superstar!" The boy heard Glamrock Freddy greet, before the bear backtracked on that statement. "I suppose 'good afternoon' is more appropriate." He corrected with a small chuckle, seeing as the sun outside wasn't as high in the sky as it had once been.
Sitting up, Gregory looked across the room to find Freddy rummaging through the cupboard in the kitchen. At first glance, something seemed off. It took the boy a good minute to realize what it was. Freddy was no longer wearing his red, pointed shoulder pads, nor his small top hat. They had both been removed, and set aside... somewhere? Gregory couldn't spot where Freddy had put them.
"Um... Freddy?" Gregory asked, sitting up but staying on the floor. Freddy glanced over his shoulder to his friend. "Yes, Gregory?" Gregory paused, again. Freddy's face... the paint on his face, on his cheek, was chipped. It had already been starting to chip to begin with, but now, it was a bit more noticeable—the spot of orange-brown on his mask that was supposed to be blue and red. "What did you do?" Freddy stopped what he was doing, and turned to face Gregory again. "O-Oh, you mean why I took of my shoulder pads and top hat?"
"And what happened to you cheek?" Gregory added. "I may be a bit... large for this cabin, and I scratched my face on the edge of the cupboard." Freddy explained, gesturing to one of the top corners of the cupboard. A small speck of the bright paint on the wood stood out even from across the room.
"But why?" Gregory asked again, in reference with his first question. "Well, you see, Gregory, I don't suppose I'll be returning to the Pizzaplex any time soon—if ever," The bear began, closing the cupboard doors. "And I will, no doubt, be very noticeable anyways. I would at least like to try and remain less recognizable."
"I think that might be easier said than done, Freddy." Gregory commented, standing up and stretching a little. "You don't see a super tall robot bear every day." The boy added. "It is worth a shot, Gregory. After all, it was you who asked for me to join in leaving the Pizzaplex. " The boy shrugged, grabbing the blanket from the floor and walking over to Freddy. "Yeah, you're right."
Wrapping the blanket around his shoulders—as it had gotten a bit chilly thanks to the fire dying down—Gregory asked another question. "How long was I asleep for?" Seemingly without thinking about it, Freddy answered, "Seven hours, fourteen minutes and thirty-two seconds." The boy hummed, impressed that Freddy knew that answer down to the second. He then remembered that Freddy was a robot, of course he knew that. A thought popped into Gregory's head. "Wait, why hasn't your battery died yet?"
"I went into reduced power mode for two hours, eighteen minutes, and twenty-nine seconds after you had fallen asleep." Freddy began. "I then made sure that the cabin door was secured, before going into stasis for the following four hours, fifty-six minutes, and three seconds. I have now been in reduced power mode for the last six minutes exactly."
"What's your battery level at now?" Gregory then wondered. Freddy paused a moment to check. "I will need to be recharged in twenty-two minutes, and twelve seconds." The bear answered, looking back down to the boy. "This isn't going to work out... I should've thought about that." Gregory told, a perplexed look on his face. The two sat in silence for a moment, before the boy snapped his fingers. "I've got it!"
"You've got what?"
"The car battery!" Freddy gave a confused tilt of his head. "I do no understand." Gregory looked back up to the bear again. "Can we change your battery with the car battery?" Freddy gawked a little at the idea. "I am... unsure if that is a wise idea, Gregory." He told, a small nervous look on his face. "We might as well try, right?"
"Well, the car battery did overcharge my own, giving me some extra time before my next charge." Freddy recounted. "Then that settles it. Back to the van!"
~~~
"Do be careful, Gregory." Freddy warned. Gregory, who was wearing a technician's oversized rubber gloves, apron and goggles that they'd found in the back of the van, waved the bear off. "I'll be extra careful, don't worry." He assured the bear. "Do you wish for me to repeat your instructions, to make sure you know how to make the switch?"
"Uh, nope. I got it!" Freddy opened his mouth to say more, to stall a little longer, but instead said, "If you are... confident. I will now be shutting down." The bear told, leaning against the side of the van, sitting on the ground. The light in Freddy's eyes flickered out, as he went still—slouching a little. Gregory bent down a little to meet his friends eerie gaze. "Freddy?" No answer. The boy waved his arm in front of Freddy's face, the action also met with zero response. Seeing as the bear was completely turned off, Gregory took that as his cue to switch out the animatronic's battery with the car battery.
The boy moved slowly as he went, keeping his arms' shaking to an absolute minimum. Remembering every step Freddy had explained to him, Gregory managed to switch out the batteries. After the 'Fazbear Entertainment' tagged battery was taken from it's place, Gregory slowly put the dusted car battery in it's place. He had to restrain himself from getting outwardly excited when the car battery fit in the slot almost perfectly. Once everything was reconnected, Gregory closed Freddy's paneling up. Then, he pressed the animatronic's main power switch, and waited.
Standing back and removing his gloves and goggles, Gregory waited for his friend to turn back on—to wake up. A minute or two passed, and nothing happened. Freddy stayed still, unmoving. His eyes didn't so much as flicker on. "... Freddy?" Still no answer. Leaning in, Gregory tried to listen for any indication that the bear was powering on. Silence still. "Freddy?!" Gregory tried the power button once more, and waited again another minute.
"Oh no, oh no, oh no...!" Gregory was beginning to panic a little. He hadn't done something wrong, had he? "Freddy!" Gregory grabbed the bear by the shoulders, and shook him. As if that would wake the animatronic. "Please, wake up!" Gregory was about to try the power switch again, when Freddy's posture suddenly straightened. The boy gasped a little in surprise. "Freddy...?"
The animatronic said nothing, as his systems slowly powered on. His eyes began to flicker, before the flicker steadied. Freddy said nothing a minute more, before he blinked. Gregory's eyes widened in anticipation. Looking to the boy, Freddy spoke up with, "You're idea seems to have worked. Way to go, superstar-!" The bear was interrupted by Gregory collapsing into him in a hug. "Gregory?"
"I thought I'd broken you, Freddy!" Gregory told, squeezing the bear with his hug. "You weren't turning on, and I thought-" Freddy wrapped his large arms around the boy. "It is alright, Gregory. My systems were merely adjusting to the replacement battery." The bear felt a little bad now. "I am sorry, I should've warned you before powering down."
"It's okay... I'm just glad you're okay." Gregory told, slowly pulling back from the hug and sitting on Freddy's lap. There was an unshed tear or two in Gregory's brown eyes. Freddy gave him a smirk, before changing the subject. "Where to now, superstar?" The boy smiled in return.
A.N. Hope this wasn't an odd idea, but the whole 'needing to be charged every hour' was realllllly going to put a damper on things. And, according to Google, car batteries keep their charge for 2-3 months ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Oh, and all that hours and minutes spiel? I had to pull out a calculator to make sure it was all accurate as I can be a perfectionist with my writing lol
Thanks for reading, and I'll see you all next Thursday! ;)
