The time was 6AM. Now was finally his chance. He could leave. The animatronic bear knelt next to him was explaining as much to him. Gregory looked from the large, opened sliding exit door leading into the docks, and up to Glamrock Freddy—whose expression read as sad to see the boy leave.
"The door is open and you can go." The bear explained. Gregory had a very thoughtful look on his face as he considered his options. The boy thought for a moment, considering all the pros and cons of if he were to stay behind at the Mega Pizzaplex. The more he thought, however, the more he realized that he didn't want to stay. Gregory wanted to leave—he'd been wanting to leave for the past six hours, and now he finally could.
But, if he left, Freddy wouldn't be able to come with him... right? Gregory pondered that con. He didn't want to leave Freddy, and undoubtedly after this whole debacle, Gregory probably wouldn't be allowed to return ever again. He'd probably be blacklisted from the Pizzaplex once Vanessa tells her boss about what had happened tonight.
Ever since Gregory climbed into a 'sleeping' Freddy, the boy had been treated with nothing but kindness and protection from the bear. (When Freddy was able to do so, that is.) And now, Gregory would be repaying that with what? Leaving his friend behind? He didn't want to do that.
There was a beat of contemplative silence that passed before the boy finally spoke up again. "I'm gonna leave." Gregory told, looking up to Freddy's now-yellow-eyes again. The bear gave a small nod, while also giving the boy's shoulder a gentle squeeze. "I understand." He replied somewhat sadly. Gregory reached towards the bear's shoulder, placing his small hand upon it. "Come with me!"
"What?" Freddy's expression turned puzzled. "I gotta go, but I don't want to leave you here, Freddy!" Gregory explained, glancing to the other side of the open door. "Gregory... I can not leave here. I do not think it would be a good idea." The boy was already walking into the loading area of the docks, pulling his animatronic friend along by the hand. "Aw, come on! They can just make another one of you, can't they?"
"I- Why, yes, I am certain they can, but-" Freddy was promptly cut off. "Then that settles it!" Gregory let go of the bear's hand and ran off to the nearest company van. "What are you doing, Gregory?" Freddy asked, simply watching the boy as he tried the vehicle's door. "I'm trying to see if any of these are unlocked so we can get a ride out of here!"
The bear's ears flicked a little with some intrigue. That seemed to be a plan that might work. Freddy watched as Gregory found the van to be unlocked. "This one!" The boy called, pulling on the handle. "Is it unlocked, Gregory?" Freddy's question was answered by the boy opening the driver's side door. "Uh-huh!" Gregory affirmed, hopping into the seat and closing the door. Freddy went over to the van, and opened the passenger door.
"I don't see any keys..." Gregory noted, looking around the inside of the car. Getting in himself, Freddy too looked around the interior of the vehicle. Looking to the glove compartment before him, the bear pulled the small latch to open it up. Inside, there was a small, wrapped up bungee cord, a few scraps of papers, a wad of cash, and- "I have found them, Gregory!"
"The keys?" Gregory looked over to see Freddy hold up the key ring. "Awesome!" Gregory exclaimed, taking them from the bear. Freddy's head tilted a bit in confusion, as he watched Gregory put the keys in the ignition. "Do you intend to drive, Gregory?" Gregory nodded. "The go-karts in Roxy Raceway weren't that hard to drive, this can't be that different." The boy explained, before trying to reach for the pedals. They were too low down.
"Drats! I can't reach the pedals!" Freddy looked between their two seats. There was a thick employee manual on the floor. "Here, let me help you." Gregory watched as Freddy took the manual, and using the bungee cord, attached it to the gas pedal. "How is that?" Gregory put his foot back down. Grinning, he exclaimed, "Perfect!"

The early hours of the morning were relatively quiet. The sounds of cars passing by in front of the Mega Pizzaplex were all that could be heard, aside from the low hum of the lights illuminating the welcome sign located at the entrance of the parking lot. That quiet was soon interrupted by one of the company vans being drove right through the wooden sign, smashing a large hole into it.
Gregory was grinning ear to ear as he steered the vehicle along, foot pressed on the gas pedal. Freddy kept glancing from Gregory, and to the road—holding onto the overhead handle with a death grip. For a nine-year-old, Gregory was doing remarkably well in driving the van. Freddy would've offered to drive, that is, if he knew how.
As he looked back to the road to ensure Gregory wasn't about to collide with anything else, (they'd gotten lucky with that sign), a warning light came up in the corner of Freddy's HUD. "Gregory..." The boy took a quick side glance to his animatronic friend as he drove. "M-My battery..." Gregory looked over again, eyes wide as he watched Freddy fall limp in the passenger seat. "Freddy?!"
The brakes screeched as the van came to a halting stop. Turning the vehicle off, Gregory undid his seatbelt and hopped out. He ran around to the other side and did the same for Freddy. Carefully, Gregory laid the animatronic down on the grass next to the road. "Oh no...! Argh-! Freddy!" Gregory paced around a bit, trying to think of a solution to the problem at hand. The only battery charging stations there were, were the ones back at the Pizzaplex. Now what was he supposed to do?
A lightbulb went off in Gregory's head. The boy wasted no time in going to pop the van's hood. Then, he attached the cables to Freddy, before going to turn the van on again—to turn the vehicle's battery on. A loud spark went off, causing Freddy to flinch somewhat violently. Gregory looked to the bear through the windshield, nervously thrumming his fingers on the steering wheel. Suddenly, the animatronic sat up and blinked a few times, causing the boy to smile excitedly. Gregory watched Freddy stand up, return the cables to where they belonged, and putting the hood back down.
Joining Gregory in the van again, Freddy put his seat belt back on and gave the boy an assuring nod. And with that, the two were off for adventure!

A.N. Okay, so, this chapter is sooo long. I didn't think it would be this long, and can't really shorten it. I have no clue is following chapters will be as long as this, so just, don't bank on it. I also had art lined up for this chapter, but because it was running so long, the scene the art is for wasn't written in this chapter. It'll be in the next chapter, though, so stay tuned! I'll see you in the next one~
Chapters should be out on Thursdays—hopefully.
