Charlotte's POV-
A couple of weeks had passed by, and school was coming to an end. I was in the library with Malfoy, who had decided I was going to help him with the History of magic.
"This is dumb." He whispered.
"I just think you are dumb, that's why." I snapped back, I couldn't take any more complaining. He had been complaining for almost an hour.
"Shut up, I'm very smart, at least I didn't almost explode my cauldron yesterday."
"That was one time, and it was an accident." I blushed remembering yesterday's cauldron almost exploding in my face before Malfoy added the stupid frog's tongue that I had stupidly forgotten.
"You should be thanking me. I stopped you," Malfoy said, he leaned in his chair, crossing his arms over his chest.
"Sh! We don't want to be kicked out." I said. Draco shrugged, pushing his hair out of his face, before looking back down at his books. I shrugged off my robe and put my head down against the cool table. It was really really hot in the library.
"You weren't here when I was viciously attacked," Malfoy asked, I turned my head looking up at him through my eyelashes.
"Viciously attacked?" I laughed, sitting up. I knew exactly what he was talking about, the hippogriff had attacked him before I joined Hogwarts.
"Yes, that chicken-bird thing, almost ripped my arm, look." Malfoy took off his robes, and scooted his chair closer to me so that they were almost touching, he unbuttoned his sleeve, and pulled it up, showing me his long scar. The scar started at the middle of his forearm all the way to the end of his elbow.
"But I thought it just scratched you?" I couldn't help myself and ran my finger over his scar. I felt a hot jolt under my fingertip, going right to my stomach.
"Nope it was a deep cut too. Merlin, I can't wait until that bird is dead." Malfoy grinned, I felt his gaze on my hand, watching my finger's going up his scar. I was surprised he was letting me tough him.
I looked up at Malfoy. I didn't notice how close the two had gotten. Malfoy titled his head, he didn't seem to want to move if he just leaned down, less than an inch, he would be able to kiss me but instead, his eyes scanned my entire face, I could feel my face heating up. I couldn't help myself; I looked down at his lips.
What am I doing? The thought suddenly ran through my head, hitting me like a cold bucket of water. I sat up straight in my seat, clearing my throat, and looking down at my sleeve. I watched Malfoy fix his sleeve, before he looked over at his History of Magic textbook and signed.
"I can't understand any of this."
"Maybe you should start all the way back to the summer homework, hm?" I said, thankful he didn't let us have an awkward silence after our almost whatever that was.
"I didn't even do my summer homework. Made my house elf's do that." Malfoy smirked.
"What? Malfoy, it's practically the end of the year." I said, shaking my head at him.
"It was dumb, so I just let them do that. They were just saying what I already know, muggles wanted to burn us because we have magic. It's just another reason to hate them." Malfoy said, I rolled my eyes at him,
"Did you even know that they only ever caught real witches and wizards a couple of times, and when they did, the witch or wizard would just do a spell to make the fire feel like a tickling sensation. It didn't actually hurt them." I explained.
"But they still tried too! Isn't that just as bad?"
"Isn't that the same thing as what Voldemort- " Malfoy flinched at the name.
"-did with his followers? Try to kill all muggleborns because they were different. That's just as horrible." I explained.
"But how do you know they didn't you know steal the magic?"
"How could someone steal magic? It's not like they suck the magic out of your veins like a vampire." I giggled. Before Malfoy could answer, a rat jumped on the table and crawled over to me, I recognized Peter.
"OH, MY MERLIN! A RAT!" Malfoy screamed, jumping up, his papers went flying everywhere. I scooped Peter up put him into my bag as Madam Pirce walked over.
"Out of my library! Now!" She shouted at us. Malfoy ran out of the library, leaving me to clean up his mess.
"What an idiot." I huffed, I quickly cleaned up the papers, with Madam Pomfrey hovering over my shoulder.
"You left your things, idiot." I said, walking out of the library, I shoved the papers in his hands careful not to touch his hands.
"Did you see? I saw a rat! I swear!"
"Yeah, it probably left from all your screaming." I laughed; Malfoy rolled his eyes.
"I did not scream that much,"
"You screamed so loud, I'm pretty sure the mermaids in the lake even heard it. Has your voice always been that high?" I teased; Malfoy's face started turning red.
"Whatever, I'm going to go to my dorm room. I think I've had enough heartache for today," Malfoy turned around and stormed down the hallway.
"What heartache? We didn't do anything all day!" I shouted, shaking my head at him but he couldn't even see. Peter poked his head out of my bag.
"One second." I whispered to him. I rushed to the closest bathroom, shutting the door behind me. I checked every stall before I let Peter out of my bag. I watched him walk to the middle of the bathroom, as I locked the door.
"What's wrong, Peter? What happened?" I said, I knew something was wrong, he never came to see me on the Hogwarts grounds, especially when I was with someone.
"Sirius! Sirius is here! I saw him, he was in his dog form, and he was sniffing around, trying to find me." Peter shouted, I gasped, shaking my head.
"We can't let them find you until we've explained everything,"
"Exactly, where am I supposed to hide? He knows where I was hiding. He went inside the shack." Peter pulled at his long hair; he had been looking even worse lately. His hair was messier, his clothes were dirtier than usual. He had dark circles, and his face was a little yellow.
"Peter, what day is it?" I asked.
"It's June fifth."
"That means tomorrow is Buckbeak's appealing." I said as I thought out loud. Peter shook his head.
"What does that have to do with anything?" Peter asked confused, he walked up to the mirror, he stared at himself before cringing and looked away.
"Harry is going to Hagrid's hut tomorrow. That way we can distract him, after and lure him into the shack, where Sirius will be waiting. I will owl James, and make up a fake story, about Harry finding out where you are hiding and are going to go try to kill you. That way, he will come as fast as he can tomorrow morning, and we can explain everything to him tomorrow." He pursed his lips; a thousand thoughts were probably going through his head right now.
"Okay but what about Remus?" He finally said.
"He's got the map. He'll know we're all in the shack and come running."
"Alright, let's do this." Peter signed, we both knew that this was his only option, school was ending in a couple weeks, Sirius was here, Remus was here, and I had a plan to lure James in. It would work, it had to work.
"Where are you going to stay tonight, if he's looking?" I asked. Peter shrugged.
"I'm not sure. I'll figure something out."
"Are you sure? I could figure something out for you?"
"No, it will be fine. I'll find a warm spot somewhere." Peter promised, I pursed my lips but nodded. We both agreed that we'd meet back here tomorrow in this bathroom before he changed back into Wormtail, and we walked out of the bathroom.
