I spent two weeks with James and Lily, with Sirius coming to visit for a couple hours of course. The two weeks went by so fast, I never got a moment alone, even when I slept in my room, they would be sleeping on the pull-out couch they set up.
The Potter manor had pictures of Harry, James and Lily's parents, of Sirius and Remus, but none of me. I never thought I was a jealous person, but every picture left a burning feeling in my chest.
"And this is when Harry and Ron were covered in mud. They had mud everywhere." Lily laughed as she explained another picture to me. I forced out a weak chuckle, trying not to think about how much I wished for Harry's life.
"Are you alright?" Lily asked me, I nodded, blinking away the tears that had suspiciously rushed to my eyes.
"Yes, sorry. Um, a bug flew into my eyes."
"You know, we have a bunch of pictures of you in our room. We had them all over the house, but they were driving Harry crazy. He wanted to see you again, but we couldn't. And we searched all over Scottland, and London and-"
"When was this?" I asked cutting her off, I couldn't bear to listen to this just yet. Lily looked at the picture before a sad smile appeared on her lips.
"This is Remus, Sirius, me, and your dad, at the last time we were all at platform 9 3/4."
"Where's Pettigrew?" I couldn't help but ask, Lily stared at me her mouth parted slightly, the smile had completely disappeared.
"Pettigrew is the escaped prisoner, we don't know him." She cleared her throat and shut the book walking upstairs to put the book away, as James walked in, he sat down in front of the muggle TV and turned it on, flipping it to a news channel.
"... the public is warned that Pettigrew is armed extremely dangerous. A special hotline has been set up, and any sighting of Pettigrew should be reported immediately. He is not armed, but highly dangerous. He is wanted for the death of twelve muggles- "James turned off the sound, glaring at the picture of Peter Pettigrew.
"Come on, Charlotte, let's go start your lesson." Lily walked back into the room, grabbing the TV remote, and shutting it off. We had started lessons to try and help me catch up before I started Hogwarts. I was getting a hang of it, especially since I knew some stuff from the Harry Potter books.
---
"Lily, I really don't need it." I said, looking at the purple shirt, I had tried on before staring at the pile of clothes that were floating next to Lily's head. They we're buying me every item of clothing I laid my eyes on, and I was starting to feel very guilty. I wasn't used to spending so much money on me.
"I think you do. It looks good on you." Lily said, she wasn't going to take no for an answer.
"I'm going to start Hogwarts's soon; shouldn't we be going to get my robe fitted instead?" I asked, stepping back into the dressing room. I changed back into one of the red shirts Lily had bought for me earlier in the week. I threw the purple shirt in the pile, pushing open the curtain.
"You don't have any clothes at all. You used to have this little blue one little jacket that you never wanted to take off. But it got lost that day you were... um." She cleared her throat, before turning around and forcing a smile.
"Well, I'll go buy everything. Your dad's outside. He said he wanted to buy you something."
"Okay, but I really don't need-" I said, but she was already walking away to the cashier to pay for them.
"Look!" James shouted as I walked out the shop. He held a firebolt, my mouth fell open, staring at the box.
"You got that for me?"
"Yeah! Once we get home, I can show you how to fly."
"But it was really expensive. I could have just used one of Harry's old-"
"No way! I'm not letting my little girl use a used broom! Once we get home, I'll show you! You can try out for the team next year! I bet you're a chaser like me, or maybe a seeker like your grandma, or a beater like your grandpa." James smirked as Lily stepped out of the shops, shopping bags following behind her.
"Okay, James. I think she gets it. Let's go to Madam Mulkins." Lily said, the three of us walked to Madam Malkin's shop that was only two stores down. James opened the door for us, the little bell rung over our heads. Madam Malkin looked up from behind the cashier and smiled.
"Hello, what can I do for you?"
"I need a Hogwarts uniform." I told her.
"Hogwarts?" She asked, raising her eyebrows at me. I cleared my throat and nodded.
"Okay, let's go." Madam Malkin stepped out from behind the cashier and led me to the back of the shop.
---
Once my robes were done, we walked to Mr. Ollivander's shop. James pushed open the door, the shop seemed empty, the only sign that it was open was the little bell that rung over our heads.
"Hello?" James yelled; Mr. Ollivander slid towards us on a ladder that was connected from the ladders to the ground. He climbed down, pushing the ladder to the side.
"Ah! Mr. and Mrs. Potter, who is this?"
"Our daughter. Charlotte. She's here for a wand." James explained. Mr. Ollivander looked intrigued as he leaned over the counter.
"Really? I didn't know you had a daughter."
"She needs a wand." Lily said. Mr. Ollivander grabbed a measuring tape that started measuring tape, and it started measuring me on its own, before he walked and grabbed several boxes of different wands.
"Let's try these." Mr. Ollivander said, handing me a wand.
"Unicorn hair, Acacia wood, twelve inches."
"Go on, give it a try!" I waved the wand and then a couple of boxes flew off the shelves. One flew straight at James, who ducked just before it smashed into his face.
"Well, that's not it." I said, putting it down. Mr. Ollivander put the wand back in the box and handed me a new one.
"Hornbeam wood, eleven inches, and unicorn core." I swished the wand, and the plant next to the door caught on fire. I put the wand on the desk, shaking my head.
"Okay, this is going to take a while." Mr. Ollivander said.
After four or five wands, I finally landed on a blackthorn wand, eleven- and three-quarter inches, with a dragon heartstring core.
