"I want to see them." I muttered upset. "Let me see the twins." Vale pushed me back onto the stretcher without a problem.
"Stop being ridiculous. You can't possibly see them in this condition stupid." I pouted at those words and rested my head in the opposite direction in which she was standing.
After Hailey explained how Marceline could help me, Freya came and told Hailey to watch the kids while she took my hand off. I panicked; I didn't want to loose my hand after all; and may have ran out of the nurse's office and into a mob of fan girls.
After being carried away by fan girls who stole my shirt in the process, I was rescued by a pissed off trio of Vale, Marceline, and Freya. They bound me to a stretcher with blood chains and hauled me into a white operation room. Marceline waited against the wall and Vale tried to scold me for my actions while Freya got her instruments ready.
"Geez," I muttered upset. "Why are you guys in such a rush to chop my hand off? You're supposed to be my friends!"
"It's exactly because we care about you that we're doing this love." Freya walked over to me smiling. My heart lifted before I saw what she had in her hands. My eyes widened in fear and I began to struggle against the chains.
"Get away from me!" I yelled gripping Vale's forearm. When she held me in return, I was surprised until I realized she was holding me down. "I don't want to loose my hand! Come on Freya, don't do this...!"
Freya set down the stuff she was carrying and her eyes softened when she looked at me. Meanwhile, I shook in fear when I looked at what she set down in the table.
An axe, a chain saw, a throwing knife... oh my god why does she have a blow torch?!
Marceline walked over to me and tried to hold me down, but stopped when she noticed something on my chest. "What's this?" She poked my chest and I flinched.
"Ow!" I yelped. "Can you not?" Freya looked over, her curiosity peeked, and Vale looked over too. "What are you guys looking at?"
"A scar." Vale said curiously, poking it. "This must be when idiot A and idiot B killed you." My heart dropped at the mention of it and I looked away. "I wonder why it hasn't healed yet."
I shrugged as I tried not to look at them. "Maybe because I'm still not over it." I muttered. My words were greeted with silence and I was calm until I began to hear the chainsaw start up.
"No! No! Come on, can't we just talk this out?"
I looked into Freya's eyes freaking out, and she puckered her lips. With two fingers, she touched my cheek, and gently moved her fingers down towards my scar. She made a small smile and I felt Vale and Marceline begin to hold me down.
"Oh Mikey." She began slowly. "Can't you see that everything I do is for you?"
That was the last thing I heard before I felt excruciating pain on my right forearm and blood being splattered everywhere.
"Those fan girls are having quite some fun with that kid. It's like he's become famous overnight. Even the S ranked monsters have fallen head over heels for him..." Shay mummered as she looked down below the balcony of the mansion. All that was visible underneath was the dark grey clouds that usually covered Heaven. She was wearing a black dress that tightly held her skin, but she moved as if it didn't bother her at all. She sat down on the chair, crossed her legs, and reached for her glass of wine. She peered at the woman sitting across from her through the glass. After taking a sip, she set it back down and sighed. "Oh Anastasia, cheer up no? It's a party after all. Can you at least smile a bit?"
Anastasia sat across Shay in a blood red dress just as tight as hers. She was uncomfortable, and had begun to feel light headed as a result of drinking too much. "I hate dresses." She muttered annoyed. "Why am I in one again?"
Shay made a small wry smile and rested her chin on her palm. "Such a shame too, you look so wonderful in them. You could pass for a siren, you know?"
Anastasia's ears perked and her cheeks reddened as she looked away flustered. "All you know is how to seduce. Leave me alone."
"Leave you alone?" Shay repeated unmoved. "So you can what? Mourn your beloved?"
Anastasia stood up almost immediately and raised her hand to smack Shay, but pulled her hand back. "I'm sorry," Ana apologized. "Must be the wine."
"Must be." Shay repeated. She stood up, took Anastasia's hesitant hands in hers, and slowly guided her to the edge of the balcony.
"It would really suck if I died here." Anastasia joked. "You know I can't fly like you to be this close to the edge." Shay chuckled and looked at Ana.
"Ah, so you can smile. You were beginning to worry me." Anastasia shook her head and looked away, guilt and pain slowly finding their place on her face again. "And the smile disappeared. Are you really that worried about them?"
"I'd be a fool not to." Anastasia said hopelessly. She rested her forearms on the flat surface of the concrete railing and sighed as she looked off at the distance. "But it's my own fault that I am this way. I failed to properly raise my daughter, and my impulsive side marked me for a human child. In the eyes of others, I must be the ultimate failure of my species."
"Funny, coming from the leader of Vampires."
Anastasia twitched before she held her glass out, signaling she wanted more wine. Shay looked at her and made an amused noise as she picked up the bottle and brought it closer to her glass as she poured more wine. "Drinking your troubles away? Let me know if it works." Anastasia looked at Shay with eyes that made her almost drop the bottle. Though it was only a quick glare, she saw the true eyes of the Queen of demons. They were wet with tears, yet managed to maintain a vibrant angry dance of red as she quietly cried.
Shay, who was more startled, pondered how could a living organism portray two distinct emotions, so different, so controversial, so beautifully together. Shay set the bottle down and hugged Anastasia's waist from behind. Anastasia was surprised at first; she looked up to see what Shay was doing, but rested her head on her forearms when she saw it was a simple hug.
"I lead no one." Anastasia said upset as she rubbed her forehead. "How can I, when I can't even lead myself?" Shay hugged her tightly and Anastasia looked at her from over her shoulder.
"We need you to rear them in." Shay whispered. "We need the Vampires under control for this war." Anastasia sighed.
"I know." She replied soberly, before drinking whatever was left of the wine. It was silent after that, and Shay looked over at Anastasia's face to see what had made her pause. Shay was more than pleased to see a small smile finding itself on Anastasia's lips as she looked down at the clouds below. "Those kids are going to kill him before I get the chance to take him back, don't you think?"
Shay chuckled and let her go, slowly walking back to the exit. "He's the only who can make that smile last huh?" She stood in the doorway expectantly, and gripped the doorway when Anastasia didn't answer. Shay's tone grew serious as she watched Anastasia's silhouette. "Don't falter. You have me and the legion of sirens, airborne and waterborne, all at your disposal. I'll make sure the boy doesn't kill himself for you. However, remember that your goal is to rein the Vampires back. The king is a tyrant, and if we want any hope of winning this war, he must go."
Anastasia turned to face Shay. They looked into each others eyes for a moment, one vibrantly glowing pink and purple, the other pair glowing a deadly red. "I'll get then under control." She said, her voice monotonous as her eyes pulsated in brightness according to her heart beat. "With my child out of their hands and the gods no longer backing them, my people won't be able to resist me for long."
Shay nodded her acknowledgment and walked away from the balcony further into the mansion. When she was a distance away, she swallowed and began to lean against a wall, her legs buckling from underneath her as she shook. "If this is the effect a simple conversation has..." she panted as she fanned herself with her hand. "Maybe... with Anastasia... maybe we do have hope. Now, all I've got to do is make sure the brat doesn't get into any trouble."
