"Man, that's crazy." Me and the red headed boy sat crouched over as we played a game of cards. After he had changed into some pajamas, we talked and I found we had a few things in common, which was rare if your in a highschool full of 'other' creatures.

I found his name was Reddrik Bale. As we talked, I was astonished to find that we also shared our educational failures, along with some other failures in life.

"No way, your parents sent you here because you suck in school?" Reddrik cracked a smile as he put down a card.

"Well I wouldn't say suck, but I was quite terrible. A shame to my family, only I didn't see the point as a monster to have to do all the human studies." He eyed me as I put down one five. We were playing bullshit. He was winning. "What's your excuse?"

"None." I muttered. He had won the game.

"I'm just mentally challenged. I wasn't even supposed to go to this school. It's all been an accident."

Oops, I wasnt supposed to tell him that! What if he finds out I was human when I got here!?

Reddrik sat up straight on his wooden small chair and took in a deep breath. As he yawned, the strange image of the roof of his mouth captivated me. It was bumpy, like most dogs were.

Nah, if he's a real dummy like me, he won't find out a thing.

"Accident or not, your a savior to the school- a hero. At least you have something going for you. You should be proud of your accomplishments." I snorted at him in disgust.

"What accomplishments? Cowardice and possible murder? It's bullshit, all of it. They made me help them, and in return, what do I get? A new fucked up body and pity everywhere I look." I sucked in a deep breath as Reddrik played with the corners of a card.

"Sometimes you have to sacrifice things for the greater good." He looked up at me then began to stack the cards. "Even if it means sacrificing yourself."

We stayed silent for a while, the british man stacking the cards on a small wooden table.

But what's the greater good?

We sat on low stiff stools and bent our backs to read the number on the cards. The dim moonlight that leaked into the room aided the reading.

"So, hero. What's your plan?"

I looked at Reddrik as he began to shuffle the cards. The moonlight hit his angular face just as he looked down. In a way, the light had enhanced his looks. But it was only for a moment. When he looked up, his face was normal, and the image was gone.

"Go to school and survive."
