Silence

Micheal

The hallway we followed after we had entered the castle was dark. Candles flickered as we passed by them, and I had a sick feeling that I was familiar with the area. I tapped Vale on the shoulder, and hushed the rest of them to be silent.

"Follow me."

It was as if I was following an invisible red carpet that was telling us... telling me where to go.

But will lead me to the room I wanted to go to?

Will it lead me to that girl?

As we wandered, I began to hear rain pound at the floor from behind us. I  heard the rain slap and beat the floor underneath it, soaking it from where the front doors remained open. I looked back suddenly, and everyone's head jerked back to see what had startled me. Vale looked back at me irked.

"It's just rain Michael." Vale whispered annoyed. I looked at her beginning to feel strange.

"Yeah?" I asked quietly. "But didn't we close the doors behind us?"

Then I had to begun to feel it. The slow tugging feeling that I had begun to feel at the bottom of my heart since we had gotten onto the estate had turned to a full fledged pain in my chest.

Lightning flashed, and as it did, I saw the shadow of a figure with a hatchet. I began to go up after it, but as I did, the pain intensified. Lightning flashed again, and the figure was gone.

Suddenly, it was like a horror film.

"Augh!" I clawed at my chest screaming as I fell to my knees. "Make... MAKE IT STOP!" I roared and began to feel myself physically change again. I felt Vale's warm arms go around my body which was rapidly decreasing in temperature, and I heard her breath against my ear, telling my to relax, telling me that she was hurting to.

"It hurts, doesn't it?" His vile voice filled the heavy air, and I roared in response.

I twisted my head around like an animal, hoping to track down the source of the echoing laughter, but all in vain. Frustrated, I let loose another roar before beginning to breath heavily.

Heaving, I saw the candle lights flicker out for good, and realized that the glow of my eyes was so powerful, that they provided light for me and the others to see. Almost like a pair of flashlights.

Then I looked for Freya, who I had dropped nearby when I had fallen.

Time stopped when I looked at Freya. Because when our eyes met, the look she made broke my heart.

It wasn't the confidence that she always had. The smirk on her face when she was amused... not even one of the surprised but never angered facial expressions.

What I saw on Freya's face terrified me.

Because the calm composed woman that I loved was gone. All that was left was fear.

So that's all she could do. Look at me with fear. Fear that had taken her demeanor and had changed it into something else. Something new. Something twisted. And it just killed me to see it.

Why... why is she scared?

Why is Freya afraid?

I put my claws over my ears, my head on the floor while I shut my eyes and screamed.

Why is this all happening? Why can't it all just stop!?

But then, it did. The noise, the rain, the lightening.

The cry of an infant.

It all just... stopped.

"What..." I said, tears running down my cheeks. "What the hell is this?"

Freya... Vale... everyone...

I stayed on my knees and felt myself suddenly feel weak. Everything was quiet now, which is what I wanted. But I never wanted this.

Everything had stopped. But when I had finally looked up, I saw the reason why.

Everyone was already dead.
