The Beginnings of the Disaster

We bathed in the hot sun and played in the icy waters of the lake that day. I had never gone to any water besides the pool before, back home, there was not much of that nearby. So it was really fun for me, to be able to relax and play with everyone.

So when I saw Marceline going back to the tent, I decide to catch up to her.

"What, water's not good enough for you?" She smirked as she continued to stroll on.

"What has water done for me to earn my skin?"

Laughing, we both looked at each other. I locked eyes with her and was instantly reminded of the moment I first meet her.

"Hey, what wrong?  Your face just lit up like crazy. Is it too hot?"

Shaking my head flustered,  I continued to walk with Marceline back to camp.

She was the prettiest girl I had ever seen. That was what I had said to myself the instant I saw her. I looked at Marceline from the corner of my eye, and began to wonder.

Is she still the prettiest girl to me?

"What is it Mike?" I look down and saw that my hand was gripping her's.

"Oops! I'm sorry!" I apologized embarrassed. But when I looked up at Marceline, I saw the she was still holding my hand, but looking away. "Marceline...?"

"Could it be?" She asked. "That you still have feelings for me?" My face lit up in red and I looked away.

I had an obligation to Freya. I just couldn't betray her trust.

Well, at least, not so soon.

"Don't be foolish, I can never feel that way about you." I lied. "Never again." She looked at me and made one of those rare smiles, and I lost my focus as I began to furiously blush.

What's wrong with me?

She laughed and motioned to the abomination between us. "Then why are we still holding hands?"

I snatched my hand away from hers.

"When did this happen?" Marceline said looking away. We were a fair distance away from it all, yet, instead of walking to our destination, she had stopped.

"What?"

Marceline walked towards me and placed her gentle hands on my face. "When did you stop telling me everything?" She asked me, the sadness in her voice evident. "When did we become so distant?" I looked away, holding one of the hands that was on my face.

"Marceline..." She looked into my eyes then smiled, as if she hadn't just said anything.

"Oops! Never mind! Forget I said anything!" I looked at her saddened as she ran off on ahead of me in the direction of the camp.

Marceline... I thought, ashamed for having made her feel that way. I'm sorry.

I wandered the forest that surrounded the path Marceline and I had walked until I finally reached camp. By then, a good hour or two had passed, and I was sweating everywhere. I walked into camp, the intention of looking for a towel solely on my mind, when I realized everyone had gathered in the center, and their grim expressions were on me.

"What happened?"

"Don't you have eyes?" Vale snapped. "Look at the camp! Half of it is destroyed! Marceline and Red are no where to be found, and Hailey is unconscious from a serious head wound!"

"What?" I asked shocked.

Vale shook her head as Freya looked away. Secaw began to continue to tend to Hailey's wound.

"But it gets worse..." Vale said drifting off as she looked away in the distance. When I questioned her as to how, she told to me that I should head off into my broken tent, that I would find answers there.

I felt my heart drop in my chest when I saw what I found in the ruins of my broken tent.

It was Kelo's mask from my hallucination.

Scared to gave even touched it, I flung it away from me, and noticed a sticky note behind it. Tentatively pulling It away from the mask, I read aloud what the note had said, and angrily crunched It afterwards.

"Come after me if you can little bitch. Marcy is waiting for ya. Sincerely, Red."

"Michael?" Vale nervously asked as she saw my fist tightened. She felt her arm tingle, and looked down at her symbols and saw it glow. Her eyes snapped back into mine to see my bright eyes dance with fury.

I'm going to kill that little bastard!
