"Stealing her blood so that his own flesh regenerates according to the new machine that was attached to his arm... he doesn't look like it, but the boy's plenty smart." The King faced the Queen who had been forced into a corner by the three lower class vampires. "You raised him well."
"You're terrorizing her, manipulating her. And she knows it. So why does she continue to follow you?" Anastasia asked suddenly angry. "She's my daughter-"
"That you left behind." He cut her off. "And as for the reason why she's still following me? Why, I thought it was obvious. She's obviously doing it to defend the humans."
Anastasia's face twisted into something fierce and the King laughed. "It's very unfortunate for me... despite the fact that the male body is structured to be stronger than a female's; it's always been the daughter of the vampire species that has been ten times stronger than the male. Why do you think that is?"
Anastasia's eyes began to glow a neon red while the King's eyes grew a crimson red in response. But then she stopped. Something was wrong.
His eyes had flickers of gold in them.
He made a devilish smile that displayed all his pointy teeth. "Guess which god gifted me some blood?"
"Marceline you idiot." Anastasia said under her breath. The King threw his cane to the side and the three other vampires stepped forward. He laughed as he outstretched his arms.
"And with this? A fair fight between us can finally begin!"
"Marceline-"
"Don't say my name!" She screamed at she wildly lunged herself at me. The voices in her head had become distracting, and her feelings had begun to take the reigns of the fight. I stepped to the right and she fell right through; onto the floor.
I looked at her sadly and full of regret.
I don't want to fight her. I...
I shook my head as soon as thoughts of Anastasia filled my head and I stepped to the side to again, avoiding another lunge. However, it seemed that she had her wits together for this attack. The moment she fell through where I was, she caught me in the stomach with a roundhouse kick.
I stumbled a few steps back in suprise and she took my hesitation as an advantage and jabbed me in my face. Except she wasn't fast enough to get the second jab in so I caught her right fist in my left mechanical hand. "I don't want to fight you again." I said sadly, lowering her tense fist. She ignored my words and I felt a lump build in my throat.
"This isn't just about us anymore." Marceline avowed as she looked into my eyes. "I don't want to fight you either."
"Then stop." I cajoled in a whisper, pulling her closer. My body was moving on it's own, but her's was doing the same. My hands slipped around her waist and she hugged mine in return. We were like that for a moment; just holding each other.
"Why?" She asked, her face buried in my chest.
"Why couldn't we have the happy ending?"
Her question caught me off guard, and I opened my mouth to respond then closed it.
There was no right was to answer that question.
She pushed me away, her eyes filled with hurt and tears.
"I think that no matter what I do... no matter how hard I try to not feel... I can't. I love you. I hate you for doing this to me. I hate being so torn and I hate the fact that despite leaving me... despite being with another woman; I feel like you still love me too. And that's what hurts the most."
