Chapter 17

Sam

"Are you kidding me? 'Pretty woman' is a classic." Natalie asserted.

"Just because everyone is saying, 'it is a classic' doesn't actually mean it is. Ok?" Jack argues.

"Wrong. Wrong. It laid foundations for all rom-coms." She replied.

"False. It was corny, cheesy and hell of predictable." He criticizes. "Sam, help me here, man." Jack turns to me.

"Nope. Enjoy your fight." I folds my arms in surrender.

"Snitch." He frowns. " Zoey, what do you think?"

"Not me. I hate movies." Zoey shook her head.

"What? Who hates movies?" Jack mutters. "Er...someone who prefers real life drama?" She cockily responds.

"You need serious movie education." He points at Zoey.

"That's what I said too." Natalie agrees, and they continued arguing. I smiled to myself as I listen to their ridiculous grounds for argument.

Ever since we had our first date, Natalie and me hang out a lot. I introduced her to my friends, Jack and Jane, and she introduced me to Zoey, which is pretty much her only friend.

Right now, Jane is in class and the four of us are hanging out at the stadium, by the bleachers.

"Hey, Samuel." I heard someone say and I looked towards the direction of the voice.

It was Trey Kennedy, the most influential man on campus.

"Hey, man." I said once he got in front of me and we shook hands.

I faced my friends. "Trey, you know Jack, right?"

"Ofcourse. Hey, man." He greets and they shook hands.

"This is Zoey and that is Natalie." He shook hands with Zoey and he moved to properly face Natalie.

"Hey." Trey muttered in a flirtatious low tone and I rolled my eyes.

"Hi." She mutters shyly and I raised my eyebrows. What the?

"You are beautiful." He compliments and she blushed. Then, he turned to face me, "Sam, please tell me she's not your girl."

"C'mon man." I shrug and he chuckled. We talked for sometime, and shook hands again before he left.

When I sat on the bench, Jack and Zoey were talking and I noticed Natalie, looking tired, with a bored look on her face.

"What?" I mouthed, raising my eyebrows. She shook her head in negative and gave a small smile as she listened to Jack and Zoey talk.

-----------------------------------------
Jack and Zoey left for their classes about an hour ago and it's just been Natalie and me since then, but she has been surprisingly quiet which is very unlike her.

In all the time we've hung out, she hasn't been this quiet not even when we went on dates.

For the past three months, we've spent almost all our free times together and have gone on a total of seven dates.

Well, eight...if the messy first date counts as one.

I stared at her with a smile on my face. She was fumbling with her phone in a way that shows that she wasn't interested in what she was doing. It is a behaviour one shows when you are clearly trying to avoid looking at or talking to someone.

Is that someone 'me'?

I stared at her, more closely. Her face was red and her breathing was slower than usual, almost as if she's trying so hard to suppress something.

I'm definitely right.

"Are you ok?" I asked when I couldn't help it.

"Hmm..sure."

"Are you upset about something?"

"No, why would I be? I'm not the type to get emotional or dramatic." She angrily remarked.

"O...kay? We don't have to talk." I opined and she shrugs.

"You know what...Let's talk." She said, and I hid a smile.

I knew it. She couldn't keep it to herself.

"Ok. What's up?" I replied, already excited.

"What are we, Sam?"

"Uhh" What?

"Zoey said not to ask, as it always ruins things between people but I'm not cool or like normal people." Neither am I.

She paused for a second before saying, "So.. I'm gonna be me and ask you straight. What are we doing, Sam? You sometimes treat me as a friend and other times, you act like a gentleman and take me out on dates and we..like spend most of our free time together alone or with our friends. "

"Right." I nod.

"So.... Are we friends? "

"Ofcourse. You are slowly becoming my favourite one."

"Hmm.. ok then." She nod, disappointedly and I fought the urge to laugh at her expression.

This is fun.

"Shall we leave? I will walk you to your hostel."

"You don't have to. " She coldly replies.

"I want to... except you don't want me to? "

"Do whatever you like." She replies, as she carried her bag and I hid a smile.

"I will." I replied, and walked beside her.

As we walked out the school gate, I held her hands, and she stared at me, obviously taken aback by the gesture, but she didn't fight it. I smiled to myself as we walked, hand in hand.

When we got to her hostel, she stopped in front of her gate and faced me. "Do you want to come in?"

' I do. I want to.' I wanted to reply but I have a deadline.

"I can't. I have work."

"Right." She mutters, nodding disappointedly and began to let go of my hand but I held her back and pulled her closer.

Taken aback, her face turned crimson, as she kept her hands on my chest to support herself.

"What are you doing?" She half whispered and looked around.

"What? I can't do this much?" I asked, and wrapped my arms around her waist.

"I.." She trailed off, looking down at my shoes.

"Will you be my girlfriend, Natalie?" I asked, nervously. Her head snapped up immediately and she stares at me in disbelief.

For a second, she didn't say anything, and then her lips curled up into a smile before she said, " Yes..."

"What? Really?" I was surprised.

Her smiled disappeared. "You didn't want me to say yes?"

"No. I mean...Yes, I want you to say yes. I just thought you'd ask for sometime like most girls do."

"Well, I am not like most girls." She jokes and my heart fluttered.

"No, you are not." I smiled. "You are something else." I muttered before kissing her.

When we pulled away, she opened her eyes and met mine. "You have no idea how long I've wanted to do that." I admitted.

"Took you long enough." She smirks, pulled lightly on my jacket, and then kissed me. A smile curled up my lips and I took over the kiss, running my hand over her blossoming body, pulling her closer as the kiss deepened.

This time, we only pulled away when we were out of breath and all smiles.

Oh man!
