57. "My little one"

I felt instantly tense after Natalie confirmed her pregnancy, but more than that, I actually feel happy. I am overjoyed and excited - the prospect of starting a family with the love of my life was exhilarating - but Natalie sounded sad when she announced the news. I mean, she's only a few months into her final year and now she's expecting a child. I understand that it must be a lot for her, and as much as I was ready to be there for her and support her, I knew that it was not the same as walking in her shoes, so my happiness was quickly replaced with guilt—guilt because there was so much excitement in my heart, and while I understood the sacrifices I'd be asking of my girlfriend, I wanted to be selfish. The prospect of becoming a father was surprisingly appealing.

For once, I was excited to prove to my father that I wasn't going to be anything like him...So I went to him and told him the news. "What? How could you make such a mistake?" He barks as his frown deepens. "I knew it. I knew that girl was bad news the moment I saw her."

"Dad."

"She's trying to trap you. Can't you see that?"

"Dad, she is an heiress to the Bryce empire, which you would know if you paid attention to something other than what you want for me, and secondly, this was as much my fault as hers. More mine than hers."

He claps sarcastically. "Wow." He scoffs. "Spoken like a true fool, my son." He adds. "Get rid of it."

"What?"

"Didn't you hear me? I said, get rid of it."

"Oh I heard you but you already know I'm going to disobey you."

"What will you do? Announce to the whole world, you are becoming a father at 23?"

"Maybe I will."

"You wouldn't dare."

"Father, I know you know that I will. I love Natalie, man, and  I am going to ask her to marry me."

"And you think she will?"

"Of course."

"You're sure about that? Because the lady that I met appears naive but deep down, she seems that she knows what she desires unlike you. Asking her to raise a child so young? Doesn't sound like the girl I met."

"You met her once, dad."

"Sometimes, it only takes once to know, son."

"Well, you're wrong. Natalie and me are in love. We love each other and as for our child, we are gonna love and raise them with all the love in the world."

"Good luck with that. Be ready to feed your child with your love." He scoffs and walks out of the room.

Much to my father's chagrin, Natalie and I got married. It was the happiest and most beautiful day of my life. My girlfriend. My love. My true sweetheart was finally my wife.

Life after marriage was amazing for us. It was magical till the biggest tragedy of my life happened.

(18 months later)

Panicking, I prayed for my baby's life. I was nervous, scared, and feeling so restless. It had been nearly an hour and we still hadn't heard anything.

"Everything is gonna be alright, babe. Court will be fine. Please have faith." Sam tried assuring me but I wasn't having any of it, not when it all happened in front of my eyes.
