30. Secrets II

Chapter 30

Sam

"I am. You know I hate him just as much but his approval is necessary to get us to headline so the least sucking up I can do is attend his shitty party."

"I know but organized activities aren't my thing." She replies and I folded my arms in a plea. "Fine. I'll go with you." She sighs.

"Yea..." I smiled.

"But...YOU are buying me a dress."

"Deal." I smiled and as we shook hands, she let out a laugh.

"By the way, I have more questions if I'm gonna agree still."

"C'mon." I frowned and she smirks.

"You don't have to answer. Just find another plus one."

"Fine. Ask away."

"Why were you so irritable at the dinner with Natalie and Henry?"

"No, I wasn't."

"Hmm.."

"Fine. I don't like Henry. That's no secret."

"Ok. Good admission. That's progress." She teasingly remarks and I rolled my eyes.

"Can I ask another thing though?"

"As if I have a choice."

"Why did you bring me with you.?"

"We're...I know how much you wanted to eat that fish soup." She raised her eyebrows, clearly not convinced.

"You know for someone incredible smart who makes millions every minute, you are one bad liar." She smirks and I gulped my wine.

"Are you sure it's not because you wanted to have some kind of revenge on Henry and Natalie?"

"What am I, 12?

"I'm not sure. Sometimes you act 12 and other times, you do act like you are in your mid-30s."

I rolled my eyes. " I brought you there as my date because I didn't..." The loud sound of the ringing of my phone prevented me from completing the sentence.

I checked the caller id. It was Maria so I instantly picked it.

"Hey, Maria. What's up?"

"Sam, you need to get to work now. It's an emergency."

"What's happ..?" The phone got disconnected before I could complete my sentence.

"What's wrong?" Amanda asks.

"We have to go to the office. Now." I said and grabbed her hand. She carried her bag in the other hand and I led us out of the restaurant, to my car.

Natalie

It was an even bigger problem than I thought. We were being hacked. Thankfully, it was noticed on time by one of Gregory's teammates but about 9% of the system of the research data was infected.

Sam, Amanda, and I have been working tirelessly on restoring it but it's not looking good.

It's crazy to imagine that someone was able to get through the firewall.

One thing is for sure - They wouldn't have been able to do that without the help of someone who works here.

"Thank you so much for your help, Natalie," Sam says and I smiled.

We were able to save our work. The parts which we, in the bid to make sure the intruder didn't get, destroyed were mere backups.

"I couldn't have done it without you two. "

"Oh please. You did the work. Sam and me just played backup." Amanda says and I chuckled.

"Well, it was my pleasure. I just hope we could have found out who they were."

"Don't sweat it. We will catch him or her sooner than you think." Armada strongly replies and I sighed.

"Hmm...It doesn't seem like you've had lunch or dinner so can I buy you dinner?" Sam offers.

"Errm..I'll love that but Henry is waiting for me."

"Right. I understand. "

"Thanks. Raincheck?"

"Sure." He smiled and just then, my phone rang.

It was Anna calling so I immediately picked up.

"Hey, Anna. What's up?"

"Mia has gone into labour."

"What? When?"

"A few minutes ago."

"Isn't she a little early?" I asked, alarmed

"It's normal for first pregnancies."

"Oh. Ok..erm.. is it the same hospital?"

"It is."

"Ok. I'll be there," I replied and thing up and turned to face Henry, who was already staring at me.

"What's wrong?"

"Mia has just gone into labour."

"Oh. That's good news, right?"

"Yes." I smiled.

"Did you come with your car?"

"No. I'll just  order Uber."

"No. Let me take you."

"Hmm. Are you sure? I wouldn't wanna impose on your plans." I said, staring from him to Amanda.

"Oh, nonsense. We can handle our business later." Amanda assuringly responds.

"See? Let's go." Sam says placing his hand on my arm.

"Ok. Bye, Amanda ."

"More like see you tomorrow." She replies and I smiled. Then, Sam and I headed for the elevator.

"Congrats Mia, he's beautiful."

"Thank you, Anna."

"I'm so proud of you." I kissed her forehead and she smiled. Tonia,  Anna, Sam and Henry are currently in the room with her. My uncle and brother went on a business trip and will be back tomorrow. Mia's husband, Ben went downstairs to meet with the doctor.

"Thank you but right now, I'm thirsty." She replied.

"Oh, I'll get it. " I offered.

"I got it, babe. I'll get some water. Sam and I will." Henry says and Sam stares at me, then nods at me. I smiled at them and they walked out of the room together.

Sam

"What are you doing here, man?" I heard Henry as soon as we got out of the elevator and turned to face him.

"I'm sorry?"

"It doesn't seem like you are."

I scoffed, "Look if you want to say something, say it clearly."

He scoffs as well and lets out a short laugh.
"Do you want to hear it? Then fine. What are you doing trying to worm your way back into her heart?"

"Worm my way? What is this? The 18th century?" I scoff and added, "Look, man. I came here with her because she needed to get to the hospital urgently."

"That's your excuse today. The other day, I'm guessing she didn't have a car when you brought her home."

"Well yes. That tracks."

"Tomorrow, it's gonna be another lame excuse. She's no longer yours, Sam. She belongs to me."

"Belongs?" I scoff. "Natalie belongs to Natalie. Not to me and definitely not to you." I started walking toward the vending machine which wasn't far from the elevator.

"Just stay away from her. "
