Chapter 45

Sam

"Hey." I smiled and hugged my best friend excitedly. She returned home today after weeks away at her parents'

"How do you feel?"

"Like a giant ball." she says, rubbing her belly, and I smile.

"I've got something that could help with that." I smile, and almost immediately, Jack walks in with the giant birth ball in his hands.

"Ooh, I love you." She smiles heartily and kisses me on the cheek, causing me to chuckle.

___

"Wow. If they are meeting the parents, they must be serious." Jane says.

"Yeah," I said, and Jack scoffed.

"What?"

"What?"

"Spill it, J." Jane mutters to her husband, irritated.

"Guess I just think it's ridiculous that both of you are discussing that woman."

"That woman? Be respectful, Jack. I would understand a little if Sam was the angry one, but he's clearly moved on, so what's the problem?"

"Moved on?" He scoffs again. "Have you moved on, Sam? Be honest. If you are discussing her, it means something happened between you two. Right?"

"No, what could--" I stopped amidst the sentence I was making as the memories of the kiss we shared crossed through my mind. It was the night after Maria told me she would be leaving.

For the past decade, particularly the past seven years, after our marriage was finally dissolved legally, I have tried dating many women. Some were business dates set up by Maria or Mr Anderson, while others were ones I set up as a favor to my clients or partners. Many of them turned into a week or weeks long flings, but nothing was ever serious for more than a month.

I had almost forgotten how perfect her lips used to feel against mine, but that night reignited the passion that I had forgotten I had.

There was something about the way she nibbled against my lips that made me weak to my toe. Her lips were still as delicate and soft as I remember them, and her kisses were certainly bigger.

When Natalie and I started dating those years ago, I realized how very innocent she was. She was new to dating and intimacy generally, and as such, we had to take things really slow at the beginning. Trying everything one step at a time At first, she was very shy and always flustered by what I taught her, but soon, she opened up, and we soon found our rhythm and what made us connect as a couple, both sexually and otherwise.

Kissing her after so long just confirmed what I always knew: Her lips were the best I ever tasted.

"Something did happen." Jack says, and my thoughts were interrupted. "I told you, Jane. Something is going on with them."

"Sammy..."

"No. Ofcourse not." I said and drank water as I suddenly felt thirsty.

I mean, I am not stupid. There is no way I could fall for Natalie again. Not after everything she's put me through.

But...

There is the part where I couldn't help but feel a strong pang of jealousy when she told me that she was going to meet Henry's parents. A part of me wanted to stop her and tell her not to meet with Henry's parents. Actually, a big part of me has always hated seeing her with Henry. Wait.

What am I saying?

I'm not falling for her again, are you?

Oh boy!
