Chapter 16

Natalie

"Yo, Frank." I muttered happily when it was finally my turn.

"Hey" He smiles. "My day instantly got better just seeing you."

"Oh c'mon." I chuckled, blushing.

"Where 'Zozo' at?" He asks about Zoey.

"Home."

"Oh..how are you here alone then?"

"I'm not."

"What?" He frowns and looks out. When he saw Sam, he smiles.

"Is that....?" I nod. "Damn..he's fine." He winks and I chuckled and stared at Sam.

He was sitting on the chair, looking around, and had a nervous yet curious expression on his face, making him even look more handsome. He really is.. fine. As his eyes wandered, they met mine and he instantly smiles at me.

"Two cones, please. All the works."

"Don't worry. I'll give it all my best." He replies seriously and I blush, shaking my head at him.

-----

"Here." I handed Sam the cone.

"I still don't.."

"Take a bite." He hesitates but proceeds anyway.

"Hmmm... Wow." He lets out a short moan, and he took a big bite.

"Wow." He says again. "This is good."

"Right?" I replied and we both ate our ice cream.

"What did he put in this thing?"

"It's his secret till he dies," I replied, budging my head towards Frank, who waves at us excitedly.

-------

"How was it?" I ask when we were both through.

He chuckles before answers. " You were right. It was different in a good way."

"Told ya." I smiled.

"Damn..my stomach still feels good."

"Yea. Frank's ice cream will do that to you."

"How did you know about this place?"

"Urr...Zoey and me were coming back from home one afternoon and our car broke down, up this very street and then, Frank walked up to us and invited us here for some ice cream while we waited.

"For free?"

"Yea. But that was a trick."

"How so?"

"Because we finished six cones each that day."

"What?" He chuckles. "Even this one is super big."

"Speak for yourself. There is nothing like too much ice cream for me."

"Yes, ma'am." He chuckles and I smiled, nodding. "Thank you." He suddenly said, and we held eyes.

"For what?"

"For not asking me questions and trying to help me feel better." I smiled. "I'm sorry this date didn't go as planned." He added.

"Are you kidding? Ice cream fixes everything."

"It really does." He smiles and I happily continued eating my ice cream.

"I'm sorry, Natalie about that day and for not apologizing sooner. I really wasn't making fun of you. I was just taken aback."

"Sam, you don't have to apologize everytime. It's all in the past, I promise."

Sam

"Ok." I nod smiling. I sighed as we enjoyed the silence and cool breeze. I was beyond angry two hours ago but the calmness I feel now is indescribable.

I thought back to my conversation..well more like a berating session where my father critized my decision of refusing the summer training in Spain.

My father and me have never had a good relationship. Many people said we clash a lot because of our similar personalities but I don't believe that. We are nothing alike.

He always finds fault in everything that I do and so, I always want the opposite of what he tells me to do. I hate someone telling me what to do. It's one thing to give an opinion... it's another to pass an order.

Actually, if anything, the conversation we had this afternoon finally confirmed my fear since I was a child; my father was never going to accept my choices.

So, I've decided to do one more thing he won't approve of - follow my heart. My father always tells me to use my head, that my heart will get me in trouble if I followed it.

Natalie's eyes met mine and she raised her eyebrows inquistively but I shook my head with a smile which she returned.

My heart fluttered and I sighed happily.

Yes, this is how I want to feel.

----
Natalie

"Thank you." I said, as soon as he opened the door for me. "I had fun tonight."

"Me too. Thank you for coming with me and I'm sorry I made things weird at the beginning. "

"I don't know what you are talking about. All that happened prior to the ice cream has been erased from my memory." I joked, and he lets out a short laugh, nodding.

"Good. Because I was about to ask you to another date." My heart fluttered for the millionth time that night.

Oh..be calm my dear heart.
I know we are both shocked but let's be cool. Cool as a ice.

"I'm sorry. Was that too forward?"

"No. No...I like forward people." I replied and he hid a smile.

Forward people? Seriously, Natalie?

"So..is it a yes?"

"Sure."

"Good. I'll call you." He replies and started to move closer to me. I widened my eyes abit as he started to come close to her. My heart was beating at ten thousand miles per second.

Oh my God..
Oh my God...

He kissed my cheeks, then moved back to stare at my face, flashing me his smile. "Good night, Natalie."

Unable to trust my own words at the time, I nod and headed for my door.
