Chapter 19

Sam.

"You're really allergic to raw fruits?" I ask, staring at her, with my head placed on her laps.

"Yea. As a child, when I ate fruits, I sometimes used to get this really weird rash in my mouth which will last few minutes, but one day, I ate lots of fruits and my mouth swelled, so I was taken to the hospital and the doctor revealed that I have oral allergy syndrome." She replies, running her hand though my hair.

"So you can't take anything that has fruits?"

"Not necessarily. I actually can take processed fruits..like drinks. Provided it's not raw or freshly squeezed. I'm less sensitive to those."

"Oh.. that's ironic. I prefer raw fruits particularly pineapples to drinks."

"Really?" She smiled and I raised my head to to kiss her briefly.

"Yea." I replied once I  pulled away. Staring at my wristwatch, I said, "We should get going soon. You should go get ready. "

"Right." She agreed and stood up.

We're going to the upside for a concert, which is at least an hour away. "I'll be back in a jiffy," she kissed me again before heading inside. I smile from ear to ear as I nod.

I've been dating Natalie for two months and have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. She's the best thing that's ever happened to me.

These past few weeks with her have been so much more than I could have anticipated. I've known we'd have a fantastic connection since I asked her to be my girl, but more than anything, she gets me, and that makes me so happy.

Every time I see her, it's as if I'm seeing her for the first time. Spending time with Natalie is one of my favorite things to do. I've never been as enthralled by or as eager to be around someone as I am with her.

She is the source of my joy. Whatever I'm going through or how I'm feeling, the instant I talk to her, I know I'll be able to get through it. She's not just stunning, but also very intelligent and thoughtful.

A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts, and I went to open the door.

My thoughts were interrupted by a knock at the door, and I went to open it.

When I opened the door, I was greeted by a man who appeared to be in his late twenties and dressed in an Armani suit, giving off a rich man feel. He reminded me of my father in certain ways.

He frowns, obviously annoyed to see me. He squints at me, as if attempting to gauge my size.

"Who the fuck are you?" He yelled.

"Who are you, man?" I gave a serious frown

"Who am I? The owner of the goddamn house you are in, that's who."

"The landlord? What do you wan-?"

"Babe, who is...Will?" When I turned to face Natalie, she came to a halt, her face concerned.

Will?

Wait..as in her brother?

I returned his stare, and he continued to stare at me, so I pretended to grin.

"Come here." He barked and practically dragged her out with him as soon as she walked to meet him.

Oh boy!

What have I done?

So much for a good first impression...

Natalie.

(Present day)

"What's this about you working for Sam I've heard?" Will says this as soon as he walks into his father's office, where I am now working.

"I'm collaborating with." I made a correction. I closed my laptop to save my work and confront him properly. "It's not like I kept it a secret from you. Remember how you saw me printing my papers in this very office?"

"I do recall. But that isn't what I'm getting at. I've heard you're the brains behind their latest innovation."

"Well.."

"So.. it's true?"

"Well, not quite. Sam made me a team member, and I'd had this concept for a long time and hadn't expected them to appreciate it. Well, they did, and now we're here."

"We? It sounds that you are genuinely working for him."

"With him. And why do you sound like my boss right now?"

"Are you referring to Alex? So, what did he say when he found out that you gave your work to the company you're supposed to be spying on?"

"He didn't like what I did..but he understood why and has given me two months ultimatum. And Will, you're exaggerating the situation."

"Am I, or are you trying to make it sound less dramatic? Remember, you're supposed to be discreetly eavesdropping on the guy? Not to mention not coming up with new business ideas for him."

"Okay, I understand. And I haven't forgotten what I'm supposed to be doing."

"Are you certain of that? Because it appears that you're having a good time with your little ex-boyfriend."

I clarified, "ex-husband." "And, as I already stated, I am aware of my responsibilities. Not even the weekend getaway with his team will make me forget that."

"Getaway?"

"Yes. Well, Sam and I, along with a few other team members, will be flying to Mauritius for the weekend to meet with the board."

"What for?"

"Well, considering the tremendous loss they suffered the last time, the investors want to be more cautious this time."

"If I were them, I wouldn't put any money into that kid."

"Will..."

"What? I'm telling you the truth. That project was a complete disaster for Sam. He was fortunate that Mr Anderson had his back, but now that he's gone, well..." I rolled my eyes again, and he went on. "So...you're spending the weekend with your ex. That's got to be a lot of fun."

"For starters, we'll be spending the weekend with at least 10 others. Second, both of us have moved on."

"I won't be so sure about that." I overheard him muttering to himself. "Be careful, kid." He frowned and then kissed the top of my head.

"I will. Thanks."
