Chapter 31

Sam

"I'd love to obey that command of yours but I can't. Do you know why? Because she works for me now." I dramatically gesticulated placing my hands against my ears.

"Works with." He corrected.

"Same thing. The point is if you wanted me out of her life so bad, you shouldn't have let her come work for me."

"Well..I...she makes her own decisions."

I scoff. "Sounds to me like you had no idea that it was me she was working with."

When he didn't respond, I smirked. "Little Henry, You're so predictable, man." I placed my hand over his shoulder and he gives me a hard glare.

I added, "Back then and even now, you still don't have the balls to tell the girl what you truly want. Maybe work on that rather than accusing others of being in your space." I placed the coin in the vending machine and clicked on the number the water was placed. I scouted to pick it.

"Do you still have feelings for her?" He asked, and k stopped.

"I want the truth." He adds and I stood up.

"I don't have to answer that. Maybe I do. Maybe I don't. That's between Natalie and me. "

"You asshole." He reached for my shirt, but I pushed him back.

"Wow. If only Natalie was here to see how much of an idiot you." I removed his hand from my shirt and pushed him back. "We are in a hospital. Maybe think about picking a different spot for a fight if you want to be beaten up so badly." I added and started walking towards the elevator door.

"You bastard. You think you're better than me. If you were so good, why did she abandon you barely a year into your marriage?"

That stopped me. I turned to stare at him.

"Don't have an answer, do you?" I gritted my teeth as his smirk grew wider.

"I'm sure this question has haunted you for years and now, seeing us together must irk you even more. While you had her, you acted like a jerk to me. Remember the day you told me y'all were going to be together forever?" He rolled his eyes.

"That day, I decided to make it my mission to work hard and be rich enough to take her away from you but then, what did I get?" He smirked. "Lucky." He adds.

"Because Natalie realised that you are an asshole who never deserved her in the first place."

I held him by the collar and punched him across the face. "You idiot." I gave a cross expression.

He collected the bottle and clicked on the elevator button. Once the doors opened, he entered, clicked on a button, then the door shut with him in it.

That idiot!

Natalie.

*Wow, sis. I always knew you were bold, but I didn't think you were THIS bold."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"Err...bringing your ex to where your boyfriend is what I mean."

"I told you...Sam offered to bring me because I didn't bring my car and also, it's no big deal."

"But seriously, earlier, it seemed like there was still some tension between Sam and you."

"What? No."

"Shut up, Mia. You are a mother now so start acting your age and stop saying nonsense." Tonia cautioned.

"Mum, I..."

Just then, we heard a knock on the door which is followed by Henry, carrying big nylon.

He dropped it on the table beside Mia's bed and handed a bottle to her.

"Thank you, Henry." She started at him smiling, and then she suddenly stopped.

"Wait. What happened to your lip?" She says, and I stared at him. His lips were mildly bleeding.

"It's nothing." He says, and just then, Sam enters.

We held eyes for a split second and then he walked to Mia's bed.

"I have to go now. Congrats again, Mia. I'll see you soon." He replies and they hugged. When they pulled away, he kissed her cheeks.

"I'll see you later." He winked and she smiled. And after saying goodbye to everyone else, I walked out of the room.

"Thank you, Sam."

"For what?"

"For the drinks and bringing me here."

I scoff, "Don't flatter yourself. I did for my little second wife even though she's not little anymore." I replied and she laughed.

"She isn't.  She is a total mum now." I say, and he smiled nodding.  "Are you ok?" I asked and his smile disappeared.

"Sure. Why?"

"The hacking. You haven't said much and I know that this is not the first of its kind."

"What do you mean?"

"Your last project."

"Right." He nods.

" I mean, I read that you got hacked and suffered a loss of millions."

" It's not that I'm not worried. You know I don't like to look stressed but I'm on it. I'm going to find that asshole this time."

"Let me know if there is any way I can help."

"I'll remember that."He replied and I smiled, nodding and to my surprise, he embraced me. Taken aback, my eyes widened a bit but then I smiled and hugged him back.  Just as we pulled away, he said, "I'll see you in the office on Monday."

"Yes, boss," I replied and he smiled.
