Why? Because Alduin may perhaps be familiar with Dwarves, but Hobbits are quite unknown to him.
Actually it's because I got stuck on the concept after finishing The Hobbit again, then watching a bunch of clips from the movie trilogy, and watching a tribute of the dragon Smaug to Burn by Ellie Goulding. The book was the idea-starter, but the real kicker in terms of motivation was the tribute, so I guess we really have Smaug to thank.
