Alex's POV:

I lift my gaze off the desk when gamma team entered. Jayden nodded his head in greeting. Jessica followed him as they settled on the chair. Gwen walked with a grin.

"I missed you, chief."

"I can't say the same," Chief muttered to which Gwen mock glared as she handed him a file of her reports.

"Heard you fell down in the ocean," Chief said as he looked through her reports. His eyes lift as he met her gaze. He gives her the same concerned look he had a few minutes back for Elena. "Is the injury fine?"

"Yep. Doctor even praised me for the durability of my skull."

"Good. Now, settle down. Elena was just about to elaborate on the reason behind the arrival of," Chief paused and gave Jason a look. "This kid."

"Sir, with all due respect, I think calling me a kid—" He paused when he met chief's daring eyes. No one corrects chief. Or stands up against him. Except for his daughter of course.

"Yes?" Chief narrowed eyes drilled hole in Jason. He shook his head, completely terrified. "It's right. Whatever you say would be right, sir."

Chief shook his head at the timid high schooler as he turned his gaze on Elena. "Eighteen, elaborate the valid reason behind his presence. If there is none, we can jump to other important things."

"Jason works for dark dragon. I knew that Meghan had to be sending the yellow letters through someone. That was Jason. He was the messenger. Not a part of inner circle, but he can still help us in finding out the location of Meghan and lend us information on what's her next step."

"You speak too high of me," Jason whispered to Elena. As I was to the other side of Elena, I could hear him. I clench my hands into a fist. He just doesn't feel like an ally to me yet. Or is it just my prejudice against him?

"What's the grantee that he won't spy on us and do the vice versa for Meghan?" I ask. Elena turns her eyes on me, her emerald eyes: strong, bold, fascinating. A light hue of enchanted forest of summer, a bright vivid lush green carpet of power which entangled me. And I got entangled. Willingly. With no regrets.

"I have a leverage over him. Most of the dragons are loyal because the king usually has someone, maybe a member of the family, as a leverage against them. So, they usually kill themselves rather than admitting the secrets to protect who they care about. King provides a compensation to the family, less than what was promised. But Jason's mother is under my supervision. If he pulls any tricks, so can I."

"He still feels like a villain to me. I don't approve him," Ben said, pointing an accusing finger at Jason. Jason rolled his eyes in return.

"And I don't remember asking for your approval."

"Listen, you low-life. You don't get to mock him," Gwen grumbled.

"Thank you, Gwen—" Ben gets cut off.

"Only I can." Gwen completed. I grin at them. Chief gives them a disapproving look like a parent to an unfaithful child.

"If you all are done, I want Elena to speak."

I turn once again towards her. Her elbow is rested on the desk as she massaged her forehead with her thumb and index finger as if the whole meeting is giving her a headache. "Uh, yeah. He's trustable for now."

"What's the next move?"

"Gwen, can you elaborate on the next plan?" Elena asked. I notice a drastic change in her behavior once again. She was all calm and collected but now, she has her eyes down, her hands fisted as if she's trying to leash her inner demon.
