Alex's POV:

A heart.

Which pumps blood, makes you live, and choses to suddenly place someone special in a corner who eventually rules the whole heart. But at the same time, I also realised how I would throw away my most treasured thumbing heart if it can make her heartbeat periodically.

A heart for a heart.

The sound of the helicopter is painful to my ears as my hair flies in all directions. I pay no heed to my sister-no, not a sister anymore. Just Meghan. Plain betrayer, killer, manipulator, exploiter, blackmailer.

That's what she is.

I don't turn towards her as I stayed in front of the door, looking keenly at Elena. God knows when I would see her again. Or if would ever see her again. Her eyes snap back at me, and millions of emotions run through her face. She places her hand against the glass door in desperation.

"Alex, listen. We don't have to do this. Don't surrender."

"I am sorry," I whisper.

"For God's sake! Your reputation is not important!" She yelled as a fist slammed against the bulletproof wall. Did she really buy that lie?

I smile and shake my head. "My reputation was never important to me."

"Then why would you-" She cut herself off when Meghan stepped forward to stand beside me. I go stiff as I clench my hand, imprinting eight crescents in my palm.

"Hello there," She takes a deep breath and lets it out. "God, long time since I've been here."

She turns towards me, but I keep my eyes away from her. "Come on Alex, we should be leaving. I travelled all the way just to pick you up."

I laugh in my head. Pick me up? More like blackmailed me to surrender.

"He's not going anywhere!" Elena hissed. Meghan turned her eyes to her. Both of them kept glaring at each other for quite a long time, like fire clashing with ice. All of a sudden, Meghan pulls up her gun and points straight at Elena's forehead.

Then pulls the trigger.

Six times.

Elena stood there. Without blinking. Her icy glare, capable of frosting the whole planet was pinned on Meghan. Her head tilted to the side as she raised a daring eyebrow. The bulletproof window did its job at protecting her but her anger, I could feel it though I am on the other side.

"Elena Edward Sterling. How are you, my dear sister?"

"Shut up."

"Just as feisty as I remember. I would love to stay back and talk to you but I might have to leave with my brother," She turned towards me with a warm smile. "Shall we, Alex?"

"Alex, don't. Grab your gun and shoot her," Elena said.

I clench my teeth in helplessness. How I wish I could just shoot her and end all of our misery. How I wish I could put an end to all of our problems once and for all. How I wish I could start anew without carrying the scar of my past. But I can't. Not when she-

Meghan laughed loudly. "Shoot me? Come on, Elena, if he shoots me, he signs a death sentence for you too. I am your lifeline and," She turned and patted my shoulder. I turn stiffer than I already was. "He is your saviour."

I close my eyes shut. Now she knows why I am surrendering myself. I look up to see her staring at me. Her lips slightly parted as she inhaled unevenly.

"You..." She directed her words at me. "You are doing this...for me."

"Elena, it's okay," I whisper as I place my hand against the window. She carried a bewildered expression as she shook her head.
