Elena's POV:
I yawn as I walk towards my dorm. The agency was completely dark as few guards patrolled the perimeter. I pass through the training room as I massage the back of my neck tiredly. It's already three in the morning by the time I return from the central prison. I might have made it back quicker if it wasn't for that stupid lieutenant who decided to give me a tour of the prison which I never asked for.
He was probably suspecting me for tampering with the monitors and cameras. He even asked me directly if I did something to obscure the cameras to which I replied with a mocking comment on their security department. He wasn't amused and stayed quiet for the rest of tour.
I push open the door and step in. It was semi-dark as moonlight gleamed through the windows. I sigh and walk up the stairs towards my room. I pause in front of Meghan's room. I look away as the hurt of betrayal came crashing down. She could have chosen not to support Antonio but hoping a traitor to turn back in right path is wishing a mountain to move. I shake my head and walk away.
I pause again in front of Alex's room. I have to clear the misunderstandings' dad told me about. And we should also discuss the threats. I walk forward and raise my hand to knock but pause when I realize what time it was. I fist my hand before bringing it down. Maybe after everyone is awake, we can discuss it. With that thought, I walk towards my room.
I am tired, yes. My eyes scream for sleep, yes. But my mind decided why not rewind what happened and analyze it. And who can resist what brain wants? And just like that, I lay awake on the bed, thinking back what Antonio said. He seems too happy and confident when he spoke to me, but he doesn't seem to have his hand behind threatening me. If it is not him, who could possibly do that? And Meghan, God knows where she is hiding, but one thing is for sure. Where ever it is, she is safe. Dad sent out so many agents to track her, but they couldn't. Even Jen tried to hack her location but ended up with nothing. It's as if like she disappeared from the face of earth.
One day, even this smart rat will get caught in the trap. All I have to do is to make sure I lure her in and catch her before she slips again.
With that last thought I shut my eyes. I suddenly feel a ray of light hit my eyes and I open my eyes again. I turn towards my bedside to see it's already ten. When you wait for sleep, it feels like eternity till it arrives and when it does, it leaves within a blink of an eye. I instantly get up and do my normal routine before going downstairs. I grab a toast which was on the table and walk to the drawing room. I instantly notice something is out of ordinary.
Jen was on her laptop whereas Ben and Liam were on phone. They sat quietly minding their own business. That's really unusual. Jen is normal but Ben and Liam are acting weird. I am used to watching Ben and Liam chasing each other every morning as Jen screams for them to stop. What's up with these two? Where's Alex? He is nowhere to be found.
"Where's Alex?" I throw the question in the air. Nobody answers since I didn't ask a particular person.
"Ben?" I call him. He looks up and gives me the fakest smile.
"Yeah?"
"I don't see Alex anywhere?" I question waiting for him to answer.
"Yeah. I don't see him either."
I give him a blank look. "Stop messing with me and tell me where he is."
"He is uh– out. He's out," he lies. I narrow my eyes.
"Out where?"
"Out on um... Out on a mission," He says in uncertainty. I raise my eyebrows.
"Mission? All alone?" I ask.
