Elena's POV:

"Why in the world would you do the wrist grabbing cliché thing with me?" I hiss staring at Alex. I couldn't see anything as it is pitch dark. The only thing I could make out is his blue-gray eyes.

"Shh. Keep quiet. You're gonna get us caught," Alex hisses back. My ear catches on to Ben's and Elijah's voice. Ben was trying to tell Elijah nothing important is here while Elijah's footsteps seem to near us.

The secret door is closed, so there is no way Elijah would find anything or would know we are hiding here. I hold my breath when I heard the footsteps getting closer and closer.

"Why is this room empty?" I hear Elijah ask.

"Why? You plan on moving in here?" Ben retorts sarcastically.

Elijah doesn't seem to say anything in return. He's probably glaring at Ben for that comment. After what seems like two minutes, we hear the footsteps drawing away from us. Alex and I let out a sigh which we were holding. I look up at Alex with a raised eyebrow. He lets out a sigh before whispering the answer to the question I previously asked him about.

"I thought if you stand in front of secret door when that FBI agent enters, he will definitely suspect you. So, I-"

"Fine. Valid point," I whisper back. "Now come on, let's leave before they catch up."

Alex looks at me for few seconds before nodding his head and turns to navigate the way. That's when he made one of the biggest mistakes of his life.

He, in the pitch dark narrow pathway, unconsciously kicked a rock. The rock trotted down the stairs, sharp clanks echo around the narrow passage grabbing the attention of Elijah.

We both went still as ice. That didn't just happen.

"What was that?" We hear Elijah's voice that made us go pale.

"Nothing. It's... It's the bird knocking on the window," Ben stutters.

"I heard that. It came from that way," We hear Elijah say and footsteps followed soon. He was striding towards us. Then we heard a knock on the wall. Then followed by continuous angry slams.

"Someone is behind this wall!! Open up!" He declares as he bangs on the wall, hoping it would open.

"Dad, I found him. He's in the east wing!!" Elijah informs through the walkie-talkie.

I look up in agitation to meet Alex's anxious face. "Run Alex," I whisper. He looks back at me and nods his head.

Swiftly he turns around and starts running towards the other end of the narrow pathway, not caring about his footsteps echoing throughout the place. I run right after him.

There is no use of worrying about the sound we produce. They caught us. All we can do is to hope we outrun them.

We keep making swift turns navigating the way through the darkness. When I notice we are close to the end of the tunnel, I grab hold of Alex's hand to stop him.

Fine. I did the wrist grabbing cliché scene with him, so what? It's an emergency!

He turns back to look at his hand then back at me, waiting for me to speak.

"FBI would definitely be waiting for you outside. You have to get to your car before anyone catches you. We'll just playact like you're running, and I am chasing, got it?"

"Yeah."

With that, he pushed open the door and started dashing towards his car parked on the side of the agency. I take a small peep to see FBI agents trying to shoot him through the window, but the bullets doesn't get past the bulletproof glass. If it wasn't for dad renovating the window for bulletproof glass, Alex would have five to ten bullets already embedded on his skin.
