Valerie.
Finally! The day of Valentine. Thankfully, it was on a Saturday, so no lectures. Nadia texted me earlier and said we should be there by 4pm. Malik called and said he'd come pick me up by 3:30.
I finished with my daily routine, rested a little bit. When I woke up from my short nap, I dashed into the bathroom to get myself ready. I did my makeup perfectly but simple, then I wore my red sequinned knee length dress. I took my purse and wore my shoes.
I received a text from Malik saying he was at my gate. I decided to waste a little more time. After five minutes, I locked my door and left the house. I walked with a majestic gait looking all Peng.
I went outside and saw him by the side of his car sipping a soda. He saw me staring at him, so he cake forward to my side. He pulled me into a warm hug.
"You look really pretty" he told me in my ears. I smiled deeply. He drove the car to wherever the location was. We arrived soon enough. I called Nadia.
Hello. Nadia.
Hey
Where are you guys? We just arrived and you said you made some reservations.
Yeah. I'm there already. In the parking lot. I'll be with you shortly.
The line went dead. I told Malik the outcome of the call and he said nothing. Few minutes later, I saw both of them approaching, Alex was in a black tux. This has to be the first time I've seen him look so corporate. Alex, I knew was your typical bad guy with tshirts, jeans and leather jackets as his usual.
I don't even know how to explain how beautiful Nadia is looking right now. Her dark skin is glowing radiantly on her red mermaid gown and silver heels with a silver clutch purse.
"Wow, you guys are looking so beautiful" Nadia gushed the moment she reached us. I hugged her then Alex, while Alex gave Malik a bro handshake.
"I really love your gown...after today it's mine" I told her and everyone laughed. Wait.....do they think I'm joking?. This people don't know me ohh.
"Okay...let's go to our seat." We trailed behind her until we got into a big banquet hall. It was a buffet service setting. We headed to our table of four. We took out seat in a way that two chairs were facing the other two chairs in an opposite direction. Malik and I sat beside each other facing Alex and Nadia who were opposite us.
Our table was already set with all kinds of food ranging from jollof rice, fried rice, grilled chicken and turkey, fried plantain, moi moi, rice and beef sauce, Chinese sauce, hot steamy pepper soup, small chops, and soups with semovita. A jug of juice was also present with red fine wines and bottles of water. I was definitely going to die today with this amount of food.
Honestly, I didn't know where to start from. I was really hungry as I haven't eaten since yesterday's afternoon. I didn't feel like it so I went to bed on an empty stomach. I mixed my fried and jollof rice together with grilled chicken, moi moi and plantain. I poured a glass to myself and ate in peace. I ate like a deprived lion, not like I care. I felt a pair of eyes on me so I turned slowly to my right and I saw Malik who was beside me staring so intently at me.
I couldn't describe how embarrassed I was, he burst into a fit of laughter and I don't know why, but I joined him laughing.
"Aswe, I just dey watch am as she dey devour the food. This girl na high craze." Nadia commented as Alex stifled a laugh. I eyed her and the foolish girl winked at me.
"Abeg ohh...make una rest oh. I'm hungry. You ehn, if you like be looking at me like mumu, don't eat your food. See the small food you carried sef, you be ant? Even small oga ant will pack food for future use and you're here preserving the food for the hotel, mugu." I said to Malik and I think that was where he couldn't take it anymore. In fact, everyone on the table was laughing. Malik face was so red even with his dark complexion.
