VALERIE.
A kind of riot broke out and we were all asked to evacuate the school's promises. Nessa called dad and told him about it, he sent money for our flight. Our flight was scheduled today at 3:10. I glanced at my phone, the time read; 1:30. I decided to go see Malik. My whole box was packed, everything I needed. I don't know when the strike would be over, nobody knows. But we hope it'd be soon.
This is one of the disadvantages of Federal Universities.Malik opened the door of his flat with a cute smile on his face.
"Hey babe, come in" he kissed me before letting me in.
"How you holding up?" I asked him. He smiled.
"Ion really know, I'm in my finals and if the strike isn't called off sooner, I'm afraid my stay here would be prolonged and I don't want that. At all!." He sounded sad so I hugged him tightly and he kissed my hair.
"When are you leaving?"
"After my baby is gone. I'll leave tomorrow." I smiled. The only reason he didn't want to go today was so he could escort me to the airport. This guy is a case. But I think he also wanted to sort a few things.
"MALIK??!" I heard a girly voice scream. It was Jemmy. She was in a red palazzo and a white lacy shirt and a black scarf covered her hair. She was an epitome of beauty.
"What is it?" He groaned.
"Ohh hey, Valerie. I didn't know you were here. Please, kindly tell this annoying boyfriend of yours who unfortunately has to be my brother, to stop touching my things." I chuckled at their silly fight. It was funny how I was warming up to Jemmy even though I still dislike my sister, her best friend and my twin.
"But I didn't touch any of your things". Malik said in his defense.
"Ohh really? So where did my parfait I made yesterday go? I left the last cup in the freezer but I can't find it anymore. We're the only ones living here, so it's YOU!"
"So it's because of that, that you're screaming my name like I took your kidney without permission. I didn't even know it was for you."
"You're still defending yourself. No, you didn't steal my kidney, but it shouldn't shock you when I take yours and leave you kidney-less" she hissed before going into wherever she came from. I couldn't control my laugh.
"Why are you laughing?" He asked me and I continued my loud laughter.
"I swear that girl is a pain in the ass. I thought she was staying with your sister in your apartment. Why is she here?"
"Cos she's your sister and she loves you" I told him.
"But I don't love her" he said even though I knew he was lying.
"Ouch"he yelped. That was when I saw the book that had been thrown on his head.
"Fool, I hate you. Go and provide my parfait." Gawd, Jemmy really has issues. She just have overheard him say he didn't love her.
"You see what I'm saying? Real pain in the ...ass" he whispered the last part to avoid another throw at him from Jemmy. I laughing uncontrollably. We sat and watched a movie for a while stuffing our faces with peppered chinchin Jemmy made.
"Ohmy! It's late already." I glanced at my phone. 2:40.
I began to panick, the ride to the airport was about 40 minutes drive. How would I get there?.
"I'll drop you" Malik offered.
"Valerie, Nessa said she's at the airport with your stuffs. She said Malik would drop you. And you should be fast."
"Well, too late cos I already offered her help" Malik jeered. He loves looking for trouble.
"I wasn't talking to you. I wish you a safe trip" she told me hugging me then smacked her brother. I hugged her back and left the flat with Malik following behind.
We got into the car and Malik sped off, we can't afford to kiss the flight. Low-key, I had lost hope, considering the distance to the airport and the minimal time we had coupled with the little traffic jam.
When we arrived it was already 3:20. I jumped down from the car and ran towards the check-in.
I sighted Nessa on one metal bench and she smiled. She gave Malik a side hug thanking him for bringing me. She mention there was a delay in the departure time. I was elated.
I sat with Malik as he kept on gisting me and chipping in sweet words. The time had finally come for us to go. They just announced it on the intercom.
"I guess this is goodbye." I nodded. "I don't want you to go"he whined. I laughed.
"We're basically going to live in the same state. And I promised to come see your family. On the condition, you'll pick me up." He nodded.
"I still don't want you to go. Kiss me" he pouted and I placed a chaste kiss on his lips. I wasn't one for PDA.
"Why are you starving me? That kiss is nothing. I want a deeper, passionate one." He whined pouting and I smiled. I drew his face closer and kissed him passionately like he requested for. He smiled with his pink lips swollen and more reddish from the kiss.
"I love you, baby" he said hugging me.
"I love too baby" I told him.
"Enough lovebirds, we have to go. Bye Malik. See you in Abuja." Nessa interrupted and Malik waled over to her hugging her.
He hugged me again and I blew kisses to him as I made my way in.
Few hours later, we were in Abuja. We ordered an Uber to the house, we didn't have time to wait for any driver.
When we got into dad's mansion, a feeling of nostalgia hit me a bit. I won't lie I missed home but never the loneliness. Mom welcomed us in. I greeted her, to which she was shocked and I went into dad's study, knowing he'd be there, to greet him.
Dinner time came, mom really outdid herself. Dishes of fried rice, pounded yam and egusi, chicken, white rice and beef stew was on our large family dining table. I decided to eat the rice and beef stew, I won't admit it to anyone, but I've missed mom's stew.
"So how you doing dad?" That was Nessa, as usual. Trying to act like the perfect daughter. Dad looked at her and smiled.
"I'm better." There was silence until he broke it. "So..Netochi, how was school?" I didn't reply at first as I was busy eating. I didn't even know the question was directed at me until I felt all eyes on me.
"Ohh...you were speaking to me? I'm sorry. Yeah, it's all good" was all I said and they continued their little random family talks that I always got bored of listening but low-key wished I could join in their conversation.
After dinner, I did the dishes then left for my room. I rested my head on my bed and was going through my phone when I received a text from Malik. I smiled. We kept on chatting until he requested for a WhatsApp voice call. Some minutes into the call, he switched to a video call. He kept gushing about how pretty my room looked like wn excited teenage girl and I smiled. He made me happy. Always.
The next day, my boring life continued. No Nadia or Malik or Jemmy, funny enough I remembered her. Or Timi. I decided to call him and we spoke for lengthy hours before he told me he needed to get something down his street.
Timi, unlike me, lived in Lagos but in an extremely sophisticated area, Magodo. He always sent videos of him walking around the estate with his cousin, Yemi. She's really fun to be with. She loved to annoy and embarrass Timi. One time in school, I was in Timi's hostel when she video called. Timi let me speak to her, I remember her gushing over my beauty and teasing him about never been able to get a girlfriend like me.
I really missed Timi but I missed Malik more. I couldn't wait for Malik to be back in Abuja. I anticipated his arrival with so much joy.
Wahala be like Valerie ohh😂💔
