Jemmy, Alex, Nadia and I were in the living room watching a movie and gisting as well. But Alex and Nadia were too busy eating their faces and showing lovey-dovey affections here and there.

"Okay,I think I'm going to puke if I continue staying here." Jemmy said walking out of the living room and they just laughed but still continued.

"Urgghh...you guys should stop this. I need a girlfriend naw." I whined and they laughed.

"When I told you to ask Valerie out, you said no."Alex said.

"Ehn? Definitely not my best friend. Valerie cannot be with this heartbreaker." Nadia told Alex while winking at me.

"Who's a heartbreaker? Tell me of a girl whose heart I've broken before." I asked her.

"Hmm... Ruby?? Yeah Ruby."

"Heiii....that was different. She lied, I didn't break things off because of her lie, but because I didn't love. She was like a younger sister to me honestly--" My phone buzzed from WhatsApp notifications. I ignored it. My phone rang minutes later. An unknown number. I was so furious. Don't people know when to disturb someone?

"Hello. Who's this?" The person's panting breath could be heard. It was obvious this person had been crying.

"Ma-- malik?? It's me Amanda" she kept crying. Why did she call me? Did something happen?

"Can you stop crying? What happened?" I asked her but she cried even louder.

"Malik....Ruby committed suicide" she wailed loudly. What? Ruby what? Suicide?

"Ho-how?--" she cut the call.

"Malik, I just heard Ruby committed suicide" Jemmy shouted rushing into the living room. I was still in shock. My brain was still trying to process everything. I felt someone's hands on my shoulders.

"Wait...what? Who committed suicide? "

"Is it the Ruby I know?" Alex and Nadia asked at the same time. They all came to sit beside me.

"What did you hear?" I asked in a croaked voice. My tears were betraying me at this moment. How could Ruby die? Ruby how?

"I heard that she died today. No one knows the exact time but she's been indoors since yesterday. Her roommate said she left only Ruby in the house yesterday and went to her boyfriend's place. Only to return today and see Ruby's corpse on the bed covered in a duvet. It was suicide." Jemmy replied crying. I couldn't take it anymore. I left the house.

"Where are you going, Malik?" Alex said holding me back. I pushed him away.

"I need to see her." I simply said and walked out. I got into my car and cried my heart out. I couldn't still believe it. I just lost a close friend. But why? Why would she commit suicide?

I drove roughly until I got to her hostel. People had already gathered around. I walked up to her room. Amanda was on her bed crying her eyes out with some girls comforting her. I walked over to where she sat. She saw me and enveloped me in a hug. I hugged her tightly, both of us shedding the pains in our tears out.

I signalled for the other ladies to leave. I saw her cold, lifeless body. I held her hands and cried my eyes out. My cheerful, bubbly girlfriend just committed suicide. She's fucking dead. Is this how people lose friends? Is this how people lose their lives?

The ambulance came and drove her to the mortuary. We did the necessities and were back in her room.

"How did it exactly happen?" I asked Amanda. Her eyes were extraordinarily puffy and bloodshot.
