...
luke was met with tons of work a day. he read, corrected, read, corrected, read, corrected. he was never more bored and exhausted at the same time in his life.
luke decided to take a break. he had a slight headache and started massaging his temples.
"luke." michael knocked on his office door softly.
luke groaned, starting to massage deeper.
"I-I dunno how to work t-the stove." michael whimpered, his voice muffled a little by the closed door.
"then don't use it." luke huffed.
"I-I... sorry, sir. I just... I haven't eaten yet."
luke heard michael's tiny feet pad away from the door. he checked his watch. it was almost two in the afternoon.
"shit." luke cursed, jumping up from his seat. luke hadn't eaten either. he hadn't eaten anything all day.
luke walked upstairs and into michael's room.
"kitten?" he mumbled, noticing michael on his phone.
michael got off his phone immediately and set it down on his bed. luke sat down next to him.
"I'm so sorry, baby boy. I hadn't realized it was so late."
michael shuddered at the nickname. his cheeks reddened, eyes looking anywhere but luke's face.
"what should we eat?"
michael stayed silent, fixing his eyes into a bookshelf. he started reading the book titles, keeping himself occupied.
luke sighed, putting a hand onto michael's knee.
"how about chinese? we can eat in. maybe I could take the rest of the day off." luke smiled, but michael's face stayed neutral.
"c'mon, kitten. I'm sorry." luke said, almost in a desperate tone. he kissed michael's ear. "I'm sorry."
luke stood up and walked out of the room, ringing up a chinese restaurant and ordering take-out.
luke mentally slapped himself for forgetting to feed michael. his memory decided to replay his time at the furry facility a month ago.
"also, it is important that they are fed three times a day... furries that have been neglected will be given a different home if not feral already..."
luke's breath hitched into his throat. what if michael called up the facility and reported that he mistreated him? shit. he had to get michael's phone.
once the chinese food came michael trudged down the stairs.
"come here, kitten." luke spoke in an inviting tone.
he saw michael's ears perk up because luke seemed so happy. in the last couple weeks luke was stuck in his office, so michael barely saw him at all. and it was also weird to see luke smiling so damn much.
michael took a seat in front of luke and luke pushed forward a container full of noodles and rice in his direction.
"thank you," michael said quietly, stomach growling.
"can I borrow your phone? there's a software update and I don't want you doing it yourself." luke said, in between bites.
michael nodded.
"your laptop, too."
michael nodded again.
michael wasn't okay with this, though.
his ear twitched.
he didn't want michael on his phone. what if he saw his messages with calum? would he get punished again? would he kick michael out?
"you look tense, kitten. something wrong?" luke notices across the table.
"n-no, uh, no." michael stuttered.
michael bit down on his lip, his heart pounding.
"if you say so."
*
after dinner luke followed michael upstairs and into his room so michael had absolutely no chance of deleting his little conversation with calum.
"here, I'll go put them downstairs on my desk and then we'll watch a movie, okay? go pick one out." luke took the electronic devices from his kitten's hands and walked downstairs.
did michael take pictures of himself? like... down there? is that why he's so worried about me taking his phone? luke wondered.
suddenly luke wanted to go through michael's camera roll.
he shook his head. luke didn't have to go through anything on michael's phone. he just had to keep it away from him long enough until michael forgot and forgave him about the no-food-incident.
he set the laptop and phone onto his desk and shut his office door, returning upstairs in no time.
"c'mon, kitten. on my bed." luke cooed, patting the mattress beside him. michael crawled next to luke, cuddling into his side. he was warm and soft. and michael pressed a small kiss on his ribcage.
michael didn't really want to watch the movie. the wanted his phone. he wanted to talk to calum, his old owner. the owner he knew.
michael's mind drifted and soon he began to wonder why calum left in the first place. he had forgotten, since it was almost half a year later, but he dug back into his memories.
was it that calum couldn't support two mouths?
was it that calum needed more time alone?
did calum just get tired of him, and all of a sudden wanted him back?
michael sighed, causing luke to look at him.
"you're not watching." luke stated simply, frowning a bit. michael shrugged.
"you don't want to watch?" luke asked, eyebrow raised. michael shrugged again.
luke sighed, sitting up. "talk to me, michael."
he pet micahel's ears softly, soothingly. michael started to purr.
"baby boy, you have to use your words sometime."
michael flinched at the nickname, pulling away from luke's touch.
"what?" luke asked, starting to get a bit annoyed.
michael shook his head, causing luke to let out an annoyed sigh.
"okay well if you're not gonna talk to me I may as well finish my work." luke stalked off, leaving michael alone on the bed.
michael sighed. he wanted his phone. he wanted to talk to calum. he wanted his old owner to tell him he wanted michael back. because michael wanted calum back.
