...
history class. first class of the day. first day of the week. three days until michael's birthday.
"hey, hey, michael, guess what!" britt squealed from next to michael.
"what." michael grumbled from his seat, trying so hard to write down the notes on the board.
she giggled.
"nothinggggggg." she said, dragging out the word obnoxiously.
michael pulled at his pink hair. "okay, britt."
"michael? do you have something to share with the class?" mr. thompson, the short, burly man, asked from the front of the room.
"no, sir." michael rolled his eyes.
he turned around to write more notes onto the chalk board.
"bitch." michael said, under his breath.
a few kids in the room laughed quietly, attempting to cover it up with half-hearted coughs.
"michaellllll," britt cheesed, "michaaaaaeeeeelllll."
he tried ignoring her, but she dragged his name out multiple times. michael felt like ripping his eardrums out of his head.
"britt," he said through gritted teeth, "shut. up."
she laughed. laughed.
"you're so cute when you're angry."
the bell rang.
"thank god." michael groaned, shoving his notebook into his backpack and slinging it over his shoulder. he almost ran out of the classroom but mr. thompson stopped him.
"come back in here, clifford."
he dragged his feet while walking back in.
britt was standing next to him.
"if this thing continues between you two I'm going to have to send a letter back to your owners." he said, looking up at us.
michael huffed quietly.
"sorry, sir." britt said, though not sounding sincere at all.
"get to class."

ace laughed at him when he told him the 'britt story' at lunch. he seemed to have a new one every day.
"shut up. I don't wanna get punished for something I didn't do."
"then tell luke you didn't do it." ace laughed again. his hazel eyes were bright in the sun. they were eating outside, lounging on the grass with their food on their laps.
michael wasn't that hungry.
"you want my sandwich?" he offered ace, who took it gratefully.
"ham and cheese?"
"ham and cheese." michael confirmed, smirking to himself.
"hey, you never tell me about your owner." michael realized as ace chomped down on his food.
"who, liam?" he swallowed, "there's nothing to really talk about."
"is he good to you?" michael asked, cocking his head to the side.
"well, yeah, I guess."
michael fell back onto the grass.
"how about yours?" ace asked him.
"luke? what about him?" michael's eyebrows raised.
"do you like him?"
"definitely."
"is he good to you?" ace asked, wiggling his eyebrows. michael scoffed, ignoring the small innuendo.
"we - um - we haven't."
"you haven't? haven't you been adopted for, like, a month already?" ace asks, mouth slightly agape.
"two, actually." michael corrected, sighing.
"well?" ace asked, finishing off the sandwich.
"what?"
"do you want to?"
michael shrugged, hands fiddling with his soft hair.
"I dunno."
