...

luke jumped out of bed as quickly as michael did, rubbing his back as he crouched over the toilet bowl.

"sorry, luke." he apologized, embarrassed. he wiped his pale lips on his sleeve, getting up off of the bathroom floor.

"no worries, kitten. let's get you some orange juice." he offered, taking the younger one's hand and getting him a small glass once they got downstairs. michael sipped on it gratefully, but it didn't taste as good. it tasted like vomit. and before he knew it, he was back over the toilet bowl, belting it out.

he felt terrible, to say the least. but he was glad he was back home with his luke. they cuddled on the couch most of the day, luke checking michael's temperature every once in a while. he had a slight fever, but luke wasn't worried about it at all. it happened sometimes.

luke wasn't worried.

-

the next day michael was back over the toilet bowl. he complained of a stomach ache and dizziness throughout the day. luke checked his temperature again, and yeah, it was high. he gave michael medicine, and lots of cuddles. he told himself that if michael was still sick by the end of the week to bring him to the furry doctor for a check up.

-

michael got better after the fourth day. he woke up perky and happy and himself. and luke became relieved. he took michael out for breakfast (since michael said he had to have pancakes that day, and luke was too lazy to make some), to a local cafe. the pair went home right after to watch some movies.

"should you go back to school on monday, precious? since you're feeling better and all." luke suggested as he kissed in between michael's ears.

the kitten-boy shook his head, "no way."

luke laughed. "why not, love? school is good for you, ya know."

"I know." michael said softly, "I just don't like the people there."

luke lifted his head off the pillow. they were cuddling on the bed at the moment, luke's head right behind michael's.

"what's going on with the people at school? are they bullying you, baby? I'll call the principle."

"no, no, lukey, it's fine. it--um, I don't think it's the actual people... ah, I don't know." michael sighed. "they're not doing anything wrong. I just don't want to see them. I don't... luke, I don't think they like me anymore."

luke's eyebrows scrunched up together. "what do you mean? who doesn't like you anymore?"

michael grumbled out a small "ace." and turned around so that he was facing luke. "he got a new buddy. this fox-hybrid named dylan." michael sighed again. "he doesn't even pay attention to me anymore, daddy."

luke nodded, kissing michael's forehead after a moment of thinking.

"can I please not go anymore?"

luke sighed. the last couple days with michael glued to his side felt amazing. he didn't want it to end. and furries weren't even required to go to school, so... no... michael should. so what if it wasn't required? michael should go. not only would it benefit luke by letting him catch up on missed work, michael would socialize with other flurries, like the fox one he mentioned.

"sorry, precious. 'm afraid not."

michael's lip jutted out. "why." he whined, sitting up in bed. "I barely even learn anything there!"

luke took a deep breath. "because, kitten. just... because it's good for you."

michael rolled his eyes, "okay, fine. whatever."

luke scoffed, "excuse me?" michael started getting off the bed but luke grabbed his tail. "get ahold of your attitude."

michael wasn't shocked. he shouldn't have talked to luke that way. but it felt weird. he couldn't put his finger on it, but something changed in that moment. he stormed off to his room, closing the door and dreading monday.
