After mockingjay

Chapter 10

Peeta. He stayed here all night through the pouring rain. Now I feel bad. But not bad enough to forgive him. "Peeta. Come in." I say. I don't want him to just stand there. "Thanks Katniss." He says. I grab a big blanket and give it to him. I mean it's the middle of November and he just stands there in the pouring rain. He must be freezing. "Katniss. I-" he tries saying.

"Save it." I say and I run up the stairs to my room while he chases after me. "Katniss, please listen to what I have to say." He says. "Fine." I say and sit down on the floor. "Katniss, the second they told me I wanted to run home and tell you but they forced me to stay and not tell you. Every day I felt even guiltier not telling you. And then you made me promise and I felt even worse. I'm so sorry I didn't tell you, but I was afraid you would shut me out if I did tell you." He says.

It's kind of hard not to forgive him after that. But I don't say anything so I just hug him. He's soaking wet but who cares. We just sit down on the floor for awhile not saying anything. Then he breaks the silence by saying "There's ummm one other thing." "What is it?" I say. "That means we're not safe. Your not safe." He says. I never thought about that. I'm not safe. And he's probably watching us this very moment. "What are we going to do?" I say. Because unless he's gone I'll never feel fully safe.

"We don't exactly have a plan except that we don't want you being alone because we know your going to be his target." He says. Great. Now I'm going to have people watching my every movement. "Okay." Is all I say. I don't want to start another argument. Then all the sudden they all walk in. "Hey Catnip." Says Gale. "Hi." I'm not exactly in the mood to talk to any of them. "We're so sorry, I feel awful." Says my mom. "I'm sure you are." I say sarcastically. "I was thinking we should take shifts." Says Annie.

Lovely. Shifts. People watching my every move. Snow really needs to take a step out of my life so all of them can to. Except for Peeta. I would be lost without him. "You know, I could just watch her." Says Peeta. "I like that idea." I say, because I would hate to have anyone else with me 24/7. I can see everyone thinking. Gale must not be to happy about that because he then says "What about when your at the bakery? We need someone to watch her then. I will." Great. Gale is going to be watching me for a good 6 hours a day for 5 days every week.

"Okay." Says my mother. For some reason I always thought she preferred Gale more than Peeta. Which I don't quite understand. I just realized that it's 10:00 p.m. We've been discussing all day. "Ummm I'm going to go to bed, so you all can leave now." I say. I grab Peeta's hand and we go to sleep. I have a dream that Snow kills everyone right in front of me. Then he lunges toward me. I wake up. Peeta is sitting there watching me. "Peeta, why are you awake?" I say. "Well, I want to make sure your okay." He says. "You don't have to stay up all night just watching. You'll never get any sleep." I say. "I'm okay. I'll go to sleep in a little bit." He says. "Okay." I say.

I drift to sleep eventually. I don't have any dreams at all. When I wake up I find Peeta asleep. I just lay there because I don't want to wake him up and I can't leave his sight. Eventually I can't take it and kiss his cheek. His eyes flutter open and he smiles. "Good morning beautiful." He says. "Morning." I say. We get up and go downstairs for breakfast. Peeta makes some eggs and bacon. It's Monday, so he has to go to work today. I don't want him to go. I don't want to be alone with Gale either. I realize I'm on the floor laying on my back staring at the ceiling when Peeta says "Breakfast is ready!" "Okay." I say. I get up and go to the kitchen. "So you have to go to the bakery today." I say. "Yeah, I do. I don't want to leave you alone with him either but he's pretty much our only other option." He says. "Yeah." I say.

Gale walks in while we're eating and says "Hey Catnip." "Hi." I say. I'm still not happy with the idea. Peeta and I finish eating in silence, it's kind of awkward because Gale just stares at us like we're on some reality tv show and he expects us to do something interesting. "Well, I better get going." Says Peeta. "Okay." I say walking him to the door. "I love you Katniss." Says Peeta. "I love you too." I say. We kiss and he walks out the door, leaving me alone with Gale.
