After mockingjay

Chapter 15

"Katniss Everdeen! I know you're in there! Open up now or I'll break down the door!" Yells Effie from outside. Peeta and I just sneak upstairs quietly and climb through the window, even though it's pouring. I hear the door break and know Effie got in. Peeta and I climb on the roof and sit down when we're clear from windows. I didn't have time to grab a jacket, so Peeta gives me his. "Thanks." I say. He puts his arm around me and keeps me close, so we can stay warm. After we hear Effie walking out we get back inside. Peeta has a drawer of his clothes here and I have a drawer of clothes at his house. We change and get ready for bed.

*TWO MONTHS LATER*

We don't do much. Just a usual routine. We haven't left each others side. We are inseparable. I'm starting to talk to my mom. She calls everyday to check in. Effie still isn't very happy with me. Haymitch, is well Haymitch. Peeta has had a couple flashbacks, but they haven't been serious. "Hey Katniss, I have to go to the bakery, you wanna meet me in the woods at 6?" Asks Peeta. Usually he offers for me to come, which I always accept. I wonder why he isn't this time. "Sure. I'll just go hang out with Haymitch." I say trying not to seem like I have nothing better to do than sit around and wait for him to get back. He laughs and says "Okay, see you at 6." He kisses me and leaves. I go over to Haymitch's who is surprised Peeta isn't with me. "Where's your second half?" He asks. "He just went to the bakery." I say. "Without you? That's some news." He says. "Yeah, I'm going to go see him." I say. "Okay, whatever." Says Haymitch.

I walk over to the bakery and walk in. The thing is Peeta isn't there. Just the person he hired to be there for when he isn't. "Is Peeta here?" I ask her. "Umm no, he took today off, sorry." He says. "Okay thanks." I say and walk out. Why isn't he there? Why did he tell me he would be? Why'd he lie to me? He probably has a good reason. I hope. I go to his house and check around. He isn't here. I go to Haymitch's house, and he's not there either. I walk around town and he's not anywhere! I'm starting to get worried. I mean Snow is still alive. He could do anything. But I erase that thought from my mind. If he's not at the woods at 6, then I'll worry. It's 3 so I decide to go see Annie since she moved here in 12 to see us more.

"Hi Annie." I say when she opens the door. "Hi Katniss! Please come in!" She says. "Have you seen Peeta at all?" I ask. "No. Sorry." She says. "Okay. So what have you been up to lately?" I ask. "Oh nothing, just taking care of Fin." She says. "Oh. Cool." I say. We talk for 2 and a half ours. I look over and see it's 5:30. "I better get going. See you later." I say. "Okay bye Katniss." She says. I walk out and start my way to the woods. As soon as I get there I'm guessing it's 6 because I see Peeta standing there. "Hi." I say. "Hi." He says back. "Okay close your eyes." He says.

I do as I'm told and he leads me somewhere. When he says "open your eyes." My breath is taken away. He put lights all over and he has a little picnic set up. "Do you like it?" He asks. "I love it!" I say and hug him. I ignore the thought of asking him where he was because I'm so happy right now. No one can interrupt us and everything is perfect. We're both smiling and laughing. I can finally see that we were meant to be and that I couldn't be happy without him. We watch the sun set together. When he gets up, I turn around to see what he's doing. That's when I see him, down on one knee.
