Chapter 16

"Katniss Everdeen, I love you with all my heart, you are my world. I love you more than life it's self. We've been through everything together. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Katniss, you'll marry me, real or not real?" I'm so happy I start crying. "Real!!!" I scream! He puts the ring on my finger and for the first time, I realize it's the pearl he gave me on the beach during the Quell. He picks me up and twirls me around in circles. I have never been so happy in my life. We kiss and walk home while holding hands. We are debating on who to tell first. We decide to go visit Haymitch and see if he'll figure it out by himself. We knock on his door and he answers. "Hey lovebirds come on in, I just made some dinner." Says Haymitch. Wait did I hear that right? Haymitch? Cooking?

"Here have some, I made tons." Says Haymitch. Peeta and I sit down and eat. It's pretty good. We hold hands and smile at each other. "Did I miss something?" Asks a confused Haymitch. "Uhhh no." I say. Peeta and I hold hands on the table. That's when Haymitch understands. He looks down at my hand and sees the ring. "Oh you guys congrats!" Says Haymitch. "Thanks." We both say and laugh. "You know, I always knew you two would get to together in the end." Says Haymitch. "Everyone did except you, Katniss." Adds Haymitch. I look down at my lap. "Well, we better get going." I say. "Okay see you two soon. Let me know when the date is set." Says Haymitch. "Okay." We both say. When we get to my house, I decide to call my mom. I grab the phone and sit on the kitchen counter. It rings a couple times then my mom picks up. "Hello?" Says my mom. "Hi mom, it's Katniss." I say. "Oh Katniss! What have you been doing lately?" She asks. "Oh nothing, just been with Peeta. And getting engaged and all." I say.

"Oh Katniss, that's great!" My mom literally screams. I mean her only child now is getting married. I'm glad she's happy for me. "Thanks mom. Well I better get going. I'll call you later." I say. "Okay. Bye." She says. And I hang up the phone. I am just so happy right now. I see Peeta and he gives me a piggy back ride. We are so childish. We're about to go outside when Effie walks in. "You people are young adults and acting like 5 year olds!" Yells Effie. "It's our specialty." I say. "Well I see your manners haven't improved." Says Effie. "And I see you don't have the word privacy in your vocabulary." I snap back. "You my friend are very rude." Says Effie. "No one ever said I was nice." I say back.

She just walks out the door filled with defeat. Peeta just looks at me. "What! I was defending myself." I say. He looks at my and just laughs. "That's one of my favorite things about you." He says. I smile and stand on my tippy toes to kiss him. We go upstairs and I take a good look at my ring. Then I notice in tiny writing that it says 'Always.' I smile remembering the day I asked him to stay with me and he responded with always. Even after being hijacked he remembered that. "When do you think we should set the date?" He asks. "I don't know, maybe in May, so in four months?" I say. I would love to have the wedding in spring. It's my favorite season.

"Okay. We could have it May 13th." He says. "Yeah! That would be perfect!" I say, while hugging him. "Okay then it's settled." He says. While we're laying down he says "All my dreams are coming true. The girl of my dreams is my fiancé." I smile. "All my dreams are coming true too. My dream guy is my fiancé." I say. He smiles ear to ear. Then has asks me "You love me, real or not real?" And I tell him without even hesitating "Real."
