The next night Oliver and Kara were having a private meal at their apartment before they had to go and meet up with the rest of the team. Usually they wouldn't have time to do this, so they were going to take this time while they could get it.
"So, this was nice. I know we still need to go and meet up with the team, but it is nice to have some free time now that we don't have a big bad. It is nice that we have enough members that it allows us some time off right now." Kara said.
"I agree. We need a break every now and then, so it is best to take it while you have the time." Oliver said.
"Yeah, so what should we do tonight? Just more patrols like usual?" Kara asked.
"I don't think there is much else we can do. We don't have any pressing matters, so we need the people to know that we are still here in case some criminals decide to do something stupid." Oliver said.
"I guess you are right. So, I have been meaning to ask you this for a while, so how are you such a good cook?" Kara asked.
"Well, between my third and fourth year back from Lian Yu, Felicity and I took off trying to live a normal life. I didn't have a job and Felicity did, so she was the money maker and I was the stay at home boyfriend. That gave me plenty of time to learn how to cook." Oliver said.
"How come you never married Felicity?" Kara asked.
"We did get engaged, but there was just too much that I didn't want to tell her about myself and this didn't work for her, so we broke up." Oliver said.
"She didn't try to force you into telling your secrets, did she?" Kara asked.
"Yes. She said that if I wasn't completely honest with her, that she was going to break up with me. When she said this, I figured out that she wasn't the one for me." Oliver said.
"I would never make anyone do that. I just hope you know that." Kara said.
"Thanks. And for that, you are more likely to learn stuff about me than Felicity did. You see, people trying to force me to do something makes me do the opposite. Being that you are not forcing this, I will most likely reveal everything to you one of these days." Oliver said.
"No pressure. I feel as though I know you well enough already." Kara said.
The two heroes were finishing their meal and talking about other stuff. Soon it was time for dessert. Oliver went and got two bowls and put some ice cream in them and then went back into the dining room.
"What flavor are we having tonight?" Kara asked.
"Nothing special. Just vanilla tonight. Hope that is ok." Oliver said.
"It is fine. You can't argue with a little plain every once in a while." Kara said as she looked down and saw something sitting in the ice cream.
"Oliver, is this what I think it is?" Kara asked.
"Yes, it is." Oliver said as he got up from his chair and got down on a knee after he picked the ring up and cleaned it off.
"Kara, every day since I moved to this earth you have brought more and more light into my life. I want to say thank you for and and I want to let you know that because of the person that you are, you make me a better person. I need you to keep on doing that for me and I hope that you will take me as your husband because I don't know what I would do without you. So, will you marry me?" Oliver asked.
"Yes, I will marry you." Kara said as she started to cry as Oliver sled the ring onto her finger.
"You know, now I wish we didn't have to go in tonight." Kara said.
"Oh, you know that is not true. You know you want to go and show off your new accessory." Oliver said with a smile.
"Ok. You got me there. I just wish we had more time to celebrate before going in tonight." Kara said.
"We can do that when we get home. We have all night, and plus, the way things have been going lately, we can probably count on an early night." Oliver said.
"I hope you didn't just jinx us by saying that." Kara said and Oliver just shook his head because he knew that he probably did just that.
. . .
Thirty minutes later, Oliver and Kara were walking into the bunker already in their suits. The team looked up when they walked in and could tell that something was different with the two leaders.
Alex already knew what was going on since she had helped Oliver pick out the ring. She couldn't help but smile at the two. "So, what took you so long getting here?" Alex asked.
"We had an interesting night and because of that it caused us to be late." Oliver said.
"What was so important that you couldn't get here on time like the rest of us did?" Thea asked.
"Well, if you must know." Kara said as she held out her left hand and everyone in the room finally saw the ring.
"Congratulations!" everyone in the room said as they realized what had happened. There were hugs from all of the team and then they decided that it was time to get down to business.
"Well, now that we got that out of the way, let's get to our patrols so that we can all get home early tonight." Kara said.
"You just want to get home because you didn't get to have your fun yet." Lena said.
"That is not why I want to get home early." Kara said and everyone looked at her with a disbelieving look. "Ok. Maybe that has a bit to do with it."
Kara was now as red as her cape because she had been caught. Just as the team was about to leave the bunker the ground began to shake and Kara looked over at Oliver and shook her head. "I told you by saying that, you would jinx it." Kara said.
"Ok. So you were right. Let's get out there and find out what is going on. It might be just a normal earthquake, and in that situation all we can do is help when it is over." Oliver said as they all left the bunker to find out what was really going on in the city.
