I woke up the next morning to the chirping of birds outside the window. When I opened my eyes, I was initially confused about where I was but recalled the events of the last night and how Aryia and I had fallen asleep together after discussing my nightmare with him and how he had comforted me.
The room was dim but warm, a small line of sunshine coming through from the window behind me. Aryia was sleeping soundly beside me under the covers, head relaxed on his pillow with one arm wrapped around my waist – holding me close – and his other clutched in a relaxed fist where it rested beside his face
Gradually, one by one, my senses sharpened. I hadn't even realized I had been paying attention to the way he was sleeping or the earthy fresh scent of his Versace cologne mixed in with the fragrance of sleep. My eyes then trailed downwards to the skin of his chest and stomach where my hands were resting on top of the light spray of hair. The memory of his gentle touch against my lap last night drifted back to me as I closed my eyes and reopened them, trying to reconfirm that I was actually sleeping next to Aryia while he was shirtless and I confirmed what I had somehow always thought would be true; he really was adorable when he was asleep – absolutely adorable. Sleep softened his features and graced his brow with the gentle touch of sweet dreams.
Trying not to disturb him, I turned my head towards his nightstand to look at the digital clock I'd bought him after we'd slept together for the first time and wondered what the time was when I'd woken up the following morning. It was almost 11am, later than either of us would wake up – even if it was a weekend. I gently rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and silently praised the fact that it was Saturday – no more work until I needed to tutor the piano on Monday evening. Next to me, Aryia was still with the exception of the gentle and steady rise and fall of his chest.
I sat next to him for a few more minutes, admiring the feel of him beside me, connecting every part of Aryia with the memory of what had happened earlier that morning. The arm on top of his pillow was speckled with a light layer of goosebumps while the one around my waist felt warm and relaxed me from the delicate way it was wrapped around the small of my back. Right now, I wouldn't mind waking up with his arms wrapped around me every morning for the rest of my life.
'Wait... What the fuck am I thinking?!' The realization was sudden but I was glad it came to me. 'We're not even dating!'
As far as relationships went, we were better than best friends, and while yes I did have feelings for him, we weren't going out or in a situationship. I like him, sure; who wouldn't? But I couldn't just come out and say it after everything he'd done for me... could I?
I had been in five relationships before though only counted one of them as a real boyfriend. James Howe my highschool boyfriend had been my first boyfriend but he'd broken things off gently after I announced I was moving to LA; then there was Matthew Gill, a fellow resident at 1600 Vine who I'd bumped into after running through a rainstorm together, we'd gone out on a date but hadn't progressed past that point when he'd started spouting lies about me online, hence my decline in clients and followers – not that materialistic things mattered – but that had been the end of boyfriend number two; boyfriend number three was Daniel Hargreaves who I found on Tinder, we'd had a conversation but never actually dated due to my schedule and I'd assumed that he'd found someone else due to the abrupt end in our contact; boyfriend number four was the only one I counted, Michael Donnovan was an actor who I met during an event with Katia, he was blond with blue eyes, and at the time my ideal type, we'd dated for a year – my second longest relationship to date – and had a lot in common. I had even taken Michael home to meet my family who seemed to really like him, however work got in the way and we slowly started to drift; he had a big contract with a filming company and I'd just set up my business following dropping out of college so we were both going through a lot though had remained close friends as he'd even managed to get me a few details and ideas for music videos which I was grateful for – and he was one of the only male friends I had, second only to Aryia.
