"What do you think about this one?" I asked Aryia, spinning around to him after just checking the dress I was holding up to my front in the mirror.
It was the day of our baby shower. Aryia and I had planned it with our roommates and sent invites to our friends and most of our invitees had RSVP'd yes.
Mariah wasn't able to make it due to work, but we'd arranged the date of the shower to be when Nick was in town to record some new tracks Aryia had written, so three out of four of the baby's godparents would be there. The turnaround had been quite positive for our families too; Aryia's dad and younger brother were both working on the date we'd planned, as were my older brother Nicholas and his wife Chanel, but the rest of our families would be attending.
"I like that one too."
The two of us had been at this for two hours now, me showing Aryia different outfits while he kept saying that he liked them. I knew he didn't mind what I wore because he kept telling me that I would look good even if I was wearing a trash bag or a potato sack (which is what I was currently looking like since my baby bump was so big now. Part of me thought that he was joking and teasing me about looking good, but I also knew that he was being honest, but even that was troublesome. I just wanted to look on the day we were getting everyone together to celebrate our baby before he arrived.
"Honestly, you don't look bad in any of your maternity clothes."
"I want you to pick an outfit though."
"Troublesome." He mumbled under his breath.
"You're the troublesome one for not helping me to pick an outfit out."
"That makes you even more troublesome."
"You wouldn't have me any other way though." I smiled.
"You know I wouldn't." He winked, making me blush. "How about you go with the theme and wear something blue?"
"Yeah but none of those outfits really scream "baby shower!", do they?"
He sighed. "Well, you know I have a thing for you in sundresses and high tops, right?"
I felt like he was onto something there. "Go on?"
"Why don't you wear the pink one?"
I looked at the pale pastel pink dress hanging up on my side of our wardrobe. The last time I had worn it was a month before our babymoon and I wasn't sure it would still fit with my baby bump being the same size as a watermelon but weighing what felt like at least five times heavier. But it was a cute dress, and if I didn't wear it now, I didn't know when the next chance to wear it would arrive.
"You know, you might be onto something."
"Aren't I always?" He smirked.
I caught him winking at me in the mirror again as I picked the dress out and held it up against my frame. Aryia was really giving me butterflies today, as were the baby's kicks which I was now counting the frequency of for an hour every day following the advice from Doctor Gray and my midwife.
"Do you need any help putting it on?" Aryia asked.
Along with the butterflies he was giving me, Aryia was also being really sweet – sweeter than usual in fact; something I didn't think was possible since he was already the sweetest, most kind-hearted and considerate person I knew.
