The morning started like any other, wake up, look at myself in the mirror and wish I had a better body. Not like I needed it, but I sure as hell didn't have a super model body.
When the mail arrived, it was a letter I had to sign for. I opened the letter.
Future Mrs. James, below I have a list of instructions. You must make the trip across country to meet with your future husband, Benjamin James. You cannot and will not sleep with other men. You will pack light, I have a wardrobe selected for you that you will wear upon arrival. You are my future wife and you will stand by my side while I rule the country. Failure to comply with my rules will result in uncertain death of your caretakers and maybe even yourself.
Former Army Captains Liam and Alex will be your guides across the country. April and Mary will be your other help along the way.
I tossed the letter on the table and went to take a shower.
Upon my exit, I saw two men in my apartment. "What the hell?" I said pulling my towel tighter around me. I grabbed my pepper spray. My hand was grabbed and I was pushed into the wall.
"You must be Melinda." One of the guys said. The one holding onto me was looking at me, his eyes dark with lust.
"We've been given orders to take you cross country." One of them said.
I yanked my arm free and went to get dressed.
I tried to climb through the window, but one of them was waiting on the fire escape. "Let's make this as easy as possible." He grabbed my bag and I sat on the couch in my apartment.
"We have a month to deliver you." The guy with a cocky smirk said.
"I'm not a package." I said.
"We just have to do what the boss said." The nicer guy said.
"So, I'm supposed to follow this list of rules and go with two complete strangers." I said.
"Look at it as an adventure." The smirky guy said. "I'm Liam, that's Alex."
"Great." I said.
"We leave in an hour." Alex said.
