Daniel neared them, pulling aside a few leaves on the way — they were really in the thick of it. Leah glanced at Jungkook, who was now standing tall, serious, almost like he was bluffing as he held her hand tightly while the other probably supported Namjoon and made sure to have him safely on his back.

Daniel stopped a few steps away. After a short moment in which he observed them from top to bottom, he waved back the way they came.

"Come, let's get him checked."

And he turned back.

Jungkook squeezed her hand and looked at her as if asking her opinion. She swallowed dryly and took a deep breath.

"I think we should follow him," her voice was shaking, despite trying to convey confidence. She sure as hell would be puking right now if he wasn't grabbing her hand.

He took a deep breath, "Then we follow him."

Jungkook took the first step and dragged her behind him, as Leah was still jittery and sort of glued to her spot. She felt like hiding behind Jungkook, but upon seeing Namjoon, that urge turned to tension. If that whole thing backfired, it was on her. She found the people, she interacted with them, she brought them to Jungkook and Namjoon, and she gave the opinion that Jungkook used to base his decision on. She should at least give them time to escape if things didn't work out.

She looked at Jungkook's nape again, and for a second she felt a sense of closeness. It was becoming normal that he'd walk in front of her, showing the way, though she had only been with him for less than twenty four hours. And yet she could guess it would happen again in the future.

When they exited the coverage of the jungle, she rushed forward so that she was going into the village first, right after Daniel. She had to force her left hand loose to do so, and she didn't see Jungkook's frown with the action. What was she doing?

The machete was still laying on the floor where Daniel had left it. She grabbed it quickly under the scrutiny of the guards that were observing her every move while Daniel passed by them carefree. She put the blade down and held it along her leg, close to her body but in a way that didn't look aggressive. She tried not to flinch when she passed the guards.

Daniel kept walking through the small town as the three of them followed. Jungkook was carefully looking around while making sure Namjoon was tucked closely, but eventually his worries vanished. Kids running after each other across the square without a care in the world caused his heart to shake. That was the hint of innocence and good that he desperately needed to make sense of everything again. Maybe not everything was lost.

Daniel reached a small house with a small red cross painted on the white wall. He opened the door without knocking and motioned with a finger for them to come in while calling: "Ella!"

Leah stopped near the entrance of what looked like a clinic and shortly after Jungkook walked in next to her. The place had a desk, a small fridge where drugs could be seen through the glass door, and even a cabinet with medical supplies. To the side there were at least two rooms that probably had beds to keep patients in. A woman rushed from one of those open doors. She was tanned, with dark brown short hair, and she was wearing all white and looked cool because of it.

Ella was going to say something, but after glancing at the weird newcomers, decided to approach them instead.

"They're the kids that escaped Sosung camp," Daniel said while Ella was already all over them, stopping by Namjoon and feeling his temperature.

"Bring him over here," she pointed to the room where she had come from and both Leah and Jungkook followed her.

Indeed it was a small room with a bed that looked clean. There was a chair on the corner and a window that showed the jungle. Jungkook placed Namjoon carefully down with Ella's help.
