Jungkook was never known for his patience, but it seemed like fate was set on testing him. As if it wasn't enough that he and his hyungs ended up on that island, going through all sorts of trials and tribulations, now everything seemed to be crashing down, and he didn't know what to do. All he knew was that he had to do something and had all the energy and willpower to do it — he just didn't know what exactly.

Driving for hours through the jungle only frustrated him. Why were things so far away?! How was he supposed not to lose his mind when he knew what his friends would face soon? He wished he could teleport, but he was stuck in that jeep, going as far as he could without getting off the road or stuck in a muddy, hidden road.

Yes, he had to take those risky roads because he saw the cartel would arrive from multiple directions, including in Omani. This was why he avoided going near the village and thought that taking less known roads would work out to his benefit — at least, as long as he didn't blow a tire or anything like that.

If the circumstances were different, he might have stopped to help Somsak and Carlos defend the place, but he couldn't stop. Not even when he heard shooting in the distance or explosions. It turned his stomach, but not today — his friends and Leah were the only priority in his mind.

He was lucky the cartel and its militia were absolutely engrossed in what they were doing, or perhaps they just had orders not to deviate from their target. It was likely the only reason why, for the two times he had close encounters with them, he was able to speed and just vanish instead of having to worry about a chase. Those cars and dirt bikes were set on whatever they were doing, or perhaps even thought he was one of them. As long as they didn't ignore him out of realizing that the Rakyat had no means to repel such an attack, he could breathe, but something told him that could also be the case.

He gripped the steering wheel and nibbled his lip ring as he mused — if things were different, the scales would have been balanced. If the situation were different, he and Leah could have gone after who truly mattered and cut off the head of the snake. Viktor would call off the attack after being beaten to a pulp, Jungkook was pretty sure. And in the end, much like when Noah died and the cartel was in chaos for a while, he guessed that with all three heads gone, there would be no one left to guide or pay that militia. The Rakyat would win easily, then.

He sighed and focused on the road. Those were fantasies; he knew that. There was no space for recklessness or risky moves — he had his friends, they had a temporary signal for Leah's brother to pick up on, and no lead on Viktor's whereabouts. There was no power play, no advantage to be gained, and no letting his hyungs get hurt or caught again. There was also no failing his promise to take Namjoon home, and Jungkook did miss home, and safety. He wanted his life back, this time with Leah in it. Yes, his warming heart agreed. He wanted that; they were almost there.

He had decided to go near Amanaki from the north based on what he had seen from the tower. The south and west coast of the island had ships and vehicles, so he imagined the north would be safe. From there, he'd be able to reach the cave southeast and, with a bit of luck, slip right by the enemy lines.

Unfortunately, his calculations were completely off. After a curve, suddenly, he was confronted with a series of vehicles of all sizes, from jeeps to quads, trucks with machine guns and vans, all flanked by more well-armed men like those he had faced before.
