He didn't reply and she wished she hadn't upset him.
"Do you want to dance?" Leah asked with a faint smile.
Jungkook downed the rest of his drink, "Yes."
The music had turned into a slow rhythm in the meanwhile but that didn't seem to dissuade them. They left their cups on a nearby table and took a few steps into the wavering crowd.
They turned to face each other and Leah looked up at Jungkook, a bit anxious about what to do. On his side, he let his will slip through for a moment. He grabbed her gently but firmly by the waist until their bodies were glued to each other.
She gasped inaudibly but then something like relief flooded her. She smiled and hugged him back, putting her head against his chest while they slowly moved to the song. He held her tighter and put his chin on her head.
"Where were you..." She whispered with her eyes closed.
"What do you mean? I was always here." He whispered back, looking around at the crowd. He could see all sorts of people observing them, including girls that looked a second away from making a move.
He closed his eyes, he couldn't care less. He was with Leah now.
She raised her head and looked into his eyes. "No... you weren't." She looked sad. He pressed his lips, trying to catch her meaning. She voluntarily moved back into his arms and hugged him closely. "I'm happy you're here now."
He swallowed dryly and hugged her back. Maybe he did know what she meant. He had been on edge the whole night. He had consciously decided to ignore her because she was a distraction. And yet, whether she was by his side or not, whether he ignored her presence or not, nothing changed. He sighed, there was nothing to do about it. He wasn't in the mood to fight it.
He shifted his chin to near her ear, "You're wearing red."
She felt her whole body tremble in a wave that left her covered in goosebumps.
"It's a powerful color," he whispered.
She bit her lip but he couldn't see it. "I must love feeling powerful since I love wearing it."
He smiled hiddenly. She was powerful in ways she probably didn't even realize.
"It suits you."
She nodded but after a moment she furrowed her eyebrows. She moved away from his chest, needing to see his eyes.
"Do I suit it also?"
His brow wrinkled while they gazed into each other's eyes, and they stopped dancing. Again, he was left trying to understand her meaning. He glanced at the dress for a second, but by her eyes, he could tell that was not the question. She couldn't possibly be asking if she suited the dress, right? She was astonishing with or without it. She was the woman making the dress, not the other way around.
"You are a powerful woman." He was searching for the right words. "You don't need to wear anything in particular."
She didn't say anything, she was observing him as if she was weighing his words. After a moment she pressed her lips and moved to get back to his chest where she felt safe. Only he kept her in place by the waist, disturbed by the feeling something hadn't clicked.
"I feel like I'm not saying what you hoped to hear."
She smiled and finally danced onto his chest again, "You don't have to. I prefer your truth to others' empty flatteries."
He held her tightly again with his chin on her head. Her words made him feel somehow proud like he was different from the rest in her eyes.
"Still, I want to know what I'm missing," he said after a moment. The music changed to a more upbeat song but they stayed the same. Neither wanted to move away.
