"Be quiet, I just started it," Jungkook said, trying to hide his playful tone, yet when he turned to face the camera his grin gave him entirely away. He adjusted his striped pajama shirt and then leaned forward over the table, gazing at a sea of messages passing by so quickly he could barely read them. "Ah, I see you, okay." He focused on trying to read the messages, which he was now used to after years of such live events. "You're all sending happy birthday messages," he smiled, adjusting himself on the chair.
He felt weird as he smiled, knowing he was doing that to connect and for some type of warmth, but knowing there was a definite barrier between him and ARMYs.
"We have a guest," he said, then he smirked. "I think this guest is a bit drunk."
Jin appeared once he was called and he and Jungkook had fun bickering and playing with his birthday cake in front of thousands of people. Eventually, Jungkook had to sort of kick Jin out because he had planned on spending time with ARMYs on his birthday.
He sat back on his spot in front of the destroyed cake and looked at the camera, seeing his own image on the screen next to it beside the constantly glowing chat.
"I want to say this to Jin-hyung," he started, and his gut twisted with an uncomfortable feeling. "It doesn't matter where you are—"
"Right!" He turned to see Jin-hyung coming back into his living room. Jungkook's nose scrunched in a smirk as his older brother completed, "I'm always by your side!"
Jungkook opened his eyes and immediately recognized where he was. The dampness and heat, the quiet early morning, the warm body behind him hugging him in his sleep.
He grabbed Leah's hand on his chest and snuggled more into her embrace. He felt incredibly supported by her presence, and he was thankful for that, but the anxiety inside his chest was bringing tears to his eyes.
He remembered all too well how Jin-hyung had come to visit him after having dinner with other people. Jin had the excuse that it was Jungkook's twenty-fifth birthday, but in truth, he had just been trying to spend as much time as possible with everyone before joining the military mandatory service. Because of how that was depressing them all, they decided to do a trip to have a last time just them, BTS, before each one had to go their own way for a while. And that was not even a month ago, it was how all of this started. If only they had never done it.
Leah sighed behind him, shifting her legs to tangle with his better, and he shut his eyes. It was all messed up. If they had never gotten on that yacht, they would have never been kidnapped, Namjoon would still be alive, and he would have never met Leah. He brought her hand to his lips and kissed it longly. He loved her, there wasn't a shadow of a doubt about it in his heart, but he knew that if it meant all of his hyungs being safe, he would have chosen to never come here, to never meet her. Then Noah would have... He cursed mutely, hiding in her hand. She would have still been drugged in that bed at his mercy and the thought alone made him want to punch something.
"Hey," she said hoarsely, squeezing him in hello.
He closed his eyes and took a deep breath before he turned to her — in the end, it didn't matter. He never had that choice nor would he.
"Hey."
"Do you have a hangover?"
"No," he rubbed his eyes then brushed his hair back. "I'm a good drinker."
"Cool." She sneakily moved her hand to tousle his hair all over his eyes again, smirking at the way he just froze with a grimace. "So—"
He got on top of her and sat on her lap while he brushed his hair back slowly, in style. "I know I'm too handsome to look at first thing in the morning, but—"
