Sapphires P.O.V

I waited anxiously in Rafael's house, pacing back and forth in his living room. I kept myself busy by attempting to tidy up but there was nothing to tidy as Sofia kept her house spotless.

My heart ached thinking of Sofia. I hope wherever she was she was safe. I knew that Rafael and his dad would ensure her safety.

They had to.

I was pulled out of my dark thoughts when my phone rang.

"Hey Dad"

"Hi Princess, how are you?"

"I'm good thank you"

"Listen I called to let you know that I'm going to the hospital so I won't be home until late in the morning. I'm sorry for leaving you alone"

"Don't be silly dad, I'll be fine. Give Gramps a kiss from me"

"Will do my love, bye"

"Bye"

"Uh wait dad, uh stay safe and I love you" Thinking about how Sofia went from us within a blink of an eye, I didn't want to have any regrets that I didn't tell my dad how much I loved him.

"Love you too"

I found myself waking up at the slam of the front door. I lifted my head to see Rafael's figure reach for the light switch.

When the lights turned on I felt my stomach drop. Rafael's face was bleeding, his clothes looked torn and the defeated look on his face made my heart sink.

"Uh sorry I thought you'd left by now" I rose to my feet and walked towards Rafael in a haze, still trying to wake up.

"I told you I wasn't going anywhere, any news on your mum?"

Rafael ran his hands through his hair and let out a sigh.

"He took her...right..right...infront of-" He was unable to finish his sentence as I realised he was fighting back tears.

I instantly found myself running towards him and pulling him into a hug. I felt tears prick my eyes, it was as if whatever he was feeling right now, I could feel it.

He pulled me tightly against his body. My heart ached at the thought of him breaking down.

For as long as I knew Rafael he always was composed and calm, even in the worst situations he didn't let his emotions show. But here he was, in my arms, silently crying for his mother.

I silently rubbed his back as I knew no words could help. I lifted my hand and gently caressed the back of his head in hopes that it would be some comfort.

"Come, let's get you washed up" After a few moments he let go of me and I found myself feeling cold without his warm embrace.

I stood beside him and gently lifted his large hand into mine and walked up the stairs to the bathroom.

Neither one of us said a word as Rafael took out the first aid kit and handed it to me.

I made him sit down on the counter top and gently took off his jacket. I gasped when I saw that the sleeve of his t-shirt had been soaked with blood.

"Oh my God your arm" It was only then that I realised he had been shot. I looked up at Rafael with panic, his eyes looked as if he was struggling to stay conscious and he was covered in sweat. His cheeks had a tinge of pink under the dirt on his face.
