Derek's POV

The dinner is going great. Mom made delicious food as always and I am so glad Meredith can get along with my family. I was slightly worried about Nancy. She can be a real bitch sometimes, well most of the time, but she seem to be holding up quite good. The rest of the sisters are very open for new people as always.

To my own frustration they are telling Meredith all about my embarrassing childhood memories. They tell them about the time I went on a date with a girl but I got so drunk I had to throw up. I threw up all over her shirt it was disgusting.

"God, no you didn't?!" Meredith says in disbelief and laughs.

"Yup, sure did." I chuckle.

"He even thought asking her out on a second date was a great idea" Kath laughs.

Meredith laughs out loud at my stupid action and I laugh along. I was so embarrassed at the time but now I can laugh with it. What was I even thinking?

After a few more stories we clean up the table and I help my mom out in the kitchen. She washes the dishes and I dry them. I love helping my mother out where I can. I get to spend time with her. I don't get to do that as often anymore.

"So how is everything really going with you and Meredith?" she asks

"It has been really great mom, truly. Sinds we moved in together things have been even better. We get to spend so much time together. In the beginning I was afraid it would be too much. We would work together, have lunch together and live together. But I was wrong, it has been perfect."

"I'm so happy for you. I can see you are happy. Ever sinds you two met you have been yourself again. A few months back, when you were still living in New York you were acting different. I could see you were miserable. I am so thankful for Meredith. She really helped you. She brought my lovely son back." I can see the tears forming in her eyes.

"I know mom, I really wasn't acting like myself. I this I was close to falling in a depression but like you said, Meredith helped me. She lightens me up. I love her so much"

"I know you do. I think she is right for you so try to not screw this up" She laughs and gives me a big hug.

We quickly clean op the rest of the kitchen and join the rest in the living room. I sit beside Meredith on the couch and she puts her hand on my leg.

"Who wants some wine?" I hear my mother say while walking in the living room with a nice bottle of wine in her hands.

I can feel Meredith squeeze my leg and I look over. Worry is written all over her face. "Don't worry, we'll think of something" I whispers in her ear. Mom pours my sisters a glass of wine and gives a beer to Max and Pete.

"Meredith?" She asks while holding the bottle up.

"No, thanks" Meredith whispers.

"Meredith doesn't drink alcohol." I quickly make up and tell my mother.

"That's alright, would you like something else?" my mother asks her. She has this look in her eyes. I don't quite know what it is but I don't like it.

"Water is fine"

Mom walks to the kitchen and comes back with a glass of water and some beer for me.

The rest of the evening is spent by watching movies, playing games and telling stories. This is exactly how I remember my childhood and I am glad I can now show Meredith.

*11.30pm*

My eyes are getting heavy and Meredith keeps yawning so I think it's time to go to bed. "Mer, do you want to go to bed?" I ask her softly.

"Yeah, that would be nice. I'm exhausted" She yawn.

"Good night everyone, we'll see each other in the morning." we say goodnight and walk towards the stairs. Just as we reach the bottom step my mom comes walking up to us. "Derek" she calls me.

"I'll be right there Mer. You know where my bedroom is." I send Meredith to bed and walk towards my mom. "Yes?" I ask mom.

"Congratulations"

"With what?" I ask confused.

"With the baby, dear"

My eyes go wide. "I-we... we aren't- How do you know?!" I ask my mom confused. I am a little freaked out. I know I promised Meredith not to tell anyone yet but how was I supposed to lie to my mother?

"I just know sweetheart. I am your mother, I know everything" She smiles. "I am very happy for you both. I know how badly you always wanted children."

"I-thank you mom." I sigh. "It's just...Meredith made me promise not to tell anyone yet." I look at the ground. I was planning on telling her soon. I know she would have been happy and supportive even if it's quick and unexpected.

"And your secret is safe with me. I won't tell anyone, not even dad. Although I am sure he would be thrilled for you."

"I know. It's just that Meredith isn't big on family stuff. She wasn't even sure if she wanted to come with me this weekend but I am so glad she did."

"We are glad too. And now off to bed!" she hushes me up the stairs. "She will be wondering what is taking you so long" She smiles and gives me a final hug. "Oh and Derek. You know I'm always there for you, he both of you."

"I know mom, thank you. I love you"

I walk up the stairs and into my childhood bedroom. Meredith is sleeping peacefully in my bed. She is wearing one of my old t-shirts and is hugging my pillow tightly. I gently undress myself and pull on my pyjama pants. I slip in the bed behind her and pull her tiny, warm body against mine. She stirs and moves her head onto my chest. Within moments my eyes close and I drift off to sleep.
