"It's a very cold night," said a voice behind her back as the woman continued to watch her horse "Champion" from the doorway. "You shouldn't be here, Miss Sinclair.

"Do you think he'll make it? -She asked, her voice muffled as she watched her favorite horse suffer.

"His eyesight was very bad a few months ago, and he was deteriorating little by little. Unfortunately, everything has gone downhill for him in the last few months."

"Has a veterinarian from the city been in? -said Rachel, turning around and meeting Pierre's taciturn and tender green eyes.

"I take care of the animals, miss," said Pierre taking off his hat and looking at her shyly.

"I mean a licensed veterinarian," said Rachel smiling.

"Well, you are in front of one," replied Pierre, surprising her. "Dr. Pierre M. Jenkins at your service."

Rachel looked at him and a soft smile appeared on her face which Pierre shyly reciprocated. Lately she was learning a lot of things from that gentle and polite cowboy. A cowboy who was a doctor. Rachel's smile was genuine. Pierre was without a doubt the perfect man."

I remember tears streaming down your face
When I said, "I'll never let you go"
When all those shadows almost killed your light
I remember you said, "Don't leave me here alone"
But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Don't you dare look out your window darling
Everything's on fire
The war outside our door keeps raging on
Hold onto this lullaby
Even when the music's gone
Gone

Just close your eyes
The sun is going down
You'll be alright
No one can hurt you now
Come morning light
You and I'll be safe and sound

Just close your eyes
You'll be alright
Come morning light,
You and I'll be safe and sound...

Lauren felt the tears flow as the music slowly faded in her studio and stopped playing. It was three in the morning. Camila had walked out that door almost an hour ago and Lauren had not followed her. The ache in her heart was great, as her eyes wandered to "Padd" the teddy bear sitting where she placed her sheet music. The loneliness was killing her. Not being able to speak, not being able to say anything was eating her soul.

Camila had not given her a chance to explain herself. She had simply let her emotions and jealousy guide her and left her standing in the middle of a room with no right to say anything at all. She had run away from what was going on and Lauren to some extent understood her. But she also suffered for her.

Did Camila think she wasn't dying of jealousy? Lauren had often had to restrain herself from going into the room and dragging Camila out to keep her in her little cabin forever. Just imagining that stupid man fondling her drove her crazy. But she knew she had to control herself. She knew because she couldn't do anything else. Their relationship was just passing and they both knew it. There could be nothing more. Unfortunately it wasn't something that could be explained so easily to the heart. There were a lot of feelings involved and that was why Lauren had decided not to pursue Camila.
