Jason ran trying to lose the security people following him down the busy Miami street. His gun had long since run out of bullets so he had started running fast. He felt a pain in his arm where one of the security guards' shots had landed but he kept running. There was a moment when he thought he lost them and leaned against the wall of a building breathing heavily as he tried to get to his car.
A smile lit up his face as he knew that shot could not have missed. It had to have been to mark the end of Lauren Jauregui. He wasn't going to be left living with his wife and money without him having anything. Without Lauren, he was sure Camila would leave everything as it was and no longer care about catching him. All his life his father had been a figure that stood for beatings and mistreatment. But he knew that his father had taught him a very important life lesson and that was: don't let anyone get the best of you.
He wasn't going to let anyone put him down or try to outsmart him. Lauren had threatened him in public, had made him stop earning money and had reported him. Now she was dead. Jason smiled again imagining Ryan and Camila's faces when they heard the news. He had finished them both off with a single bullet. Now finally his revenge had come to fruition. Ryan was going to be devastated because even though that idiot Lauren had been unfaithful to him, fucked another woman and left him; he was still defending her. And on the other hand there was Camila, the useless one who would stay married to him. It had done him no good to sacrifice almost three years of his life at her side and she had paid him back by humiliating him and letting an overbearing motherfucker belittle him.
Camila had always been the woman who had always hidden. She had never confessed that she was a fucking lesbian who had gone with the first old woman who had fucked her. Sadly, her beloved Lauren was no more, and Camila would have to live with that.
Jason tried to watch to see if anyone was following him and seeing no one he started to run to his car. Things had not gone as he had planned. He hadn't expected to shoot Lauren in front of everyone but it had been a good opportunity for him to escape among the large group of reporters. And he had made it.
Jason smiled as he started to unlock his car and at that moment he saw the group of cops coming towards him. His eyes widened in surprise as he tried to get into his car quickly. He hadn't expected something like this. He thought he had lost them. Jason heard the first shot and started his car quickly. He had to get out of that place. They couldn't catch him. He wasn't going to spend the rest of his days in jail.
He heard the screeching of tires against the pavement as he quickly fled. His eyes caught a glimpse in the rearview mirror of the cops running after him. He saw the security guards, he saw Lauren's bodyguards and a few cops running through the crowd as he smiled knowing they could never catch him running. He started laughing loudly at the sight of them.
I HAD MADE IT!
Jason laughed loudly oblivious to everything going on around him and completely distracted and at that moment he heard it. The horn, the screeching of the tires when braking and the loud impact. He lost control of the car which began to roll down the road hitting other cars in its path. Jason closed his eyes to the endless spinning. Images began to flash in his eyes as he knew that this could be the end.
FLASHBACK:
SIXTEEN YEARS AGO.
"You're a good-for-nothing," shouted his drunken father as he beat him savagely. You're good for nothing. You'll never be anything in life. You're useless, just like your mother. You're worthless, you'll never amount to anything, and you'll be a burden to me all your life."
The blows came and went as a child clung to a teddy bear as it curled into a ball in front of his bedroom door. Hit after hit after hit, one after another causing him endless pain.
