2 months...
He had been coming to see her for 2 months. She wouldn't wake up. She was in a coma. Some assumed she would die. Some assumed she would heal.
Damian knew better. She was healing and her body was absorbing so much energy that she had to sleep. She had gone so far and put herself in a coma.
Raven had attempted to save Damian from a massive explosion in a hospital which was full of people. 12 men snuck in and armed it in the basement. It was clever and the bomb was seriously powerful.
Damian couldn't help but remember the scene everyday. How Raven clung onto him so fast before raising a shield around the entire hospital. He remembered the look on her face when they ran out of time to diffuse it. She looked... happy. As if she knew she could save the people in the hospital and save him.
He wish he understood what she meant with that look.
Damian always wanted to tell Raven how much he had grown to love her. He depended on her for so long to be happy and she did the same with him. The quiet nights in each other's rooms reading, the discussions. He wanted all of them to be more. He wanted to cuddle her, kiss her, everything.
Damian was visiting Raven again, marking 3 months since the explosion. He brought flowers and placed them in a vase next to her bed. He then sat down in the chair that was close to her torso. He often found himself holding her hand.
As Damian sat there he actually began to feel a stinging in his eyes. He had been hoping that Raven would have woken up by now. Still she slept. He had never seen a creature so beautiful and it hurt that he couldn't see that beautiful creature live normally and not be in a coma.
"Raven, it's been 3 months... I'll keep thanking you every day like usual: thank you." Damian could feel that one tear in his eye that would be the first drop in the stream. He didn't care. He was going to cry and he didn't care. She was worth his tears and more.
"Why?! Why did it have to be you?!" Damian asked as he finally broke down. He held her hand up to his forehead with both his hands. It was like he was praying with someone else's hands.
As Raven began to stir awake she thought she could hear a strange sound. Someone was crying and she couldn't move her hand. Had she been out long? Where was she? Who's crying? Most importantly: is Damian ok? These were all the questions that Raven was pondering.
As she finally woke properly, she looked down her side to see her hand in Damian's hands. He was crying, she'd never seen him cry before. God knows she hates seeing him sad, that was part of the reason she held Damian as the bomb went off. Mostly, she just wanted to hold the person she loves before she could've died.
"I-I love you, Raven. Please wake up! Please!!" Was what Raven managed to hear from him. It shocked her, he felt the same. Honestly she was just happy he was alive and she wasn't hoping for anything else. Though she wished she could've confessed to him by now. So she took her chance.
"Really? I gotta admit that saving you definitely seems worth it now." Raven said with a laugh.
Damian looked up in shock. She was awake, she was alive. He couldn't believe it. He stood up and neared himself to Raven.
"Raven?" Damian said as a tear wandered down his cheek.
"Hi, Damian... My Love." Raven said with a smile.
Damian still couldn't believe it and kneeled down next to her face. She maintained her smile as he gave her a weak one of his own.
"Oh come on. Don't cry, Dami. I hate seeing you sad. I just woke up and found out you feel the same about me as I do about you and my new boyfriend is crying." Raven said somewhat sarcastically. She meant it about him being sad and she was confident he would be with her. She wanted that more than anything right now.
"Welcome back, Beloved. Blunt as ever I see." Damian said with a laugh as he wiped away his tears. It was useless though, he couldn't stop. The tears of joy had come now and he wouldn't stop.
Raven grabbed the back of his head and guided him to her neck. She held him there as he cried. "Shhh, it's ok. I'm back. I'm here. I won't go anywhere, I promise."
"I love you, Raven. I love you so much." Damian said with a broken voice as he moved to look Raven in the eyes. She wiped away his tears with her thumb as she caressed his cheek. She began to shed tears herself.
"I know. I love you too, Damian. I promise I won't leave you. Not again." Raven said as her voice began to break. She guided Damian in for her lips and he responded with a little bit of haste, she didn't mind and had her own pace to it too.
They kissed slowly, gently and then passionately. Until they pulled away and leaned their foreheads against one another. After that they laid there together crying and talking about what happened.
They began their romantic relationship in, probably, one of the worst ways possibly but they had the best outcome and they couldn't be happier.
Damian would never let Raven do that again and Raven was ok with that. They promised to protect each other and they soon began to sleep from all their talking.
Damian awoke to see Raven awake and simply smiled as he tightened his hold on her while she assured him that she was going nowhere.
They reaffirmed their love many times that day until they finally left that room to begin a new adventure together for the rest of their lives. Their love was not to be tested. Raven woke up and so did their loving new relationship.
