He was sweating, absolutely sweating. He had never been this nervous before and he didn't like it. Why the hell did it make him so nervous? All he was going to do was propose to his 3 year going girlfriend. The one who made him feel alive, made him feel worthy of love, made him the best version of himself he could be.
After 3 years Damian and Raven had managed to live alone together. They had made a very comfortable life for themselves and all in all were extremely happy. They were technically still Titans but, they acted more independently than when they were on the team.
Leaving the team was hard. Of course they only really left the tower but, living in just the same room but in a tower with a few more people made it feel less adult. They had quickly progressed in their relationship and were seeking more independence.
Sex was hard to do too. Superboy probably heard everything. Poor bastard.
Despite living in the tower for 6 years, they moved out into a house away from any nosy or loud neighbours. It was pretty big and definitely had enough room for kids. Not something either of the two necessarily wanted at the moment but, if Raven did get pregnant, they agreed that they'd start their family.
Still living in Jump City meant that long visits to Gotham continued but, it definitely could've been worse. Overall they were happy with their life. Even if they hadn't quite retired from superhero stuff. That probably had to come after a child did. Until then, it was not going to stop anytime soon.
Damian checked his tie in the mirror for the fifth time that evening. Him and Raven had made plans to go to dinner. It was different and they fancied a change of pace.
Raven was wearing a dark blue dress that made her look like royalty. One of Damian's expensive purchases that she insisted she didn't need.
Damian was wearing a fairly casual suit in all black. Raven claimed to like seeing him in all black and she saw a lot more of it after she said that.
"Dami! Come on! Our reservation is in line for 10 minutes." Raven yelled up the stairs.
"Coming, Raven!" Damian fiddled with the box in his pocket containing the ring. He kept pondering over what he thought her answer would be. In the end he just settled for: ask her and find out but please god let it be yes.
"Sorry, Beloved. You look beautiful." Damian said with a kiss to Raven's cheek.
"Thanks. Not looking too bad yourself. Boots are still not making you much taller tho are they?" Damian was still slightly pissed that he and Raven were about 2cm height difference. He ended up wearing shoes that made him taller only to feel like an idiot.
"Shall we then?" Damian asked as he offered his arm out.
"Of course." Raven said with a smile. She wrapped her arm around his and they began to meals their way to the restaurant.
Upon arriving they found the waiter to be desperate to take their order. Wayne benefit. Damian and Raven sat there for a few minutes while waiting to be served. Damian kept asking himself when he should do it. Definitely after dinner is when he settled on.
"Why so tense? You ok?" Raven asked. A look of slight concern on her face.
"Uh yeah I'm fine." Damian replied. Raven lifted one eyebrow above the other. Clearly she didn't believe him but she didn't care. Food was there.
After dinner they began talking about the old days and reminiscing made Damian mad with the desire just to ask. Though it was funny.
"And remember when Kori nearly walked in on us having sex that one time?" Raven said with a laugh.
"Yeah, she couldn't have come at a worse time. She definitely doesn't understand privacy." Damian laughed.
"Yeah, didn't you burst in to my room to get Jon and Donna out though?" Raven asked sinisterly.
"Hey I was saving you from them. You sounded so bored there."
"I was, thanks." Raven laughed.
After laughing more and more, Damian finally felt his confidence come to him.
"Raven?"
"Mmm?"
"I need to ask you something."
"Shoot. Unless you're breaking up with me. Wait why would you ask to do that? Is this why we're in such a fancy place? Oh god no!" Raven frantically said. Damian was hurt by her thoughts honestly.
"What?! No! I would never do that... Quite the opposite."
Raven looked at him confused before he put the box on the table and she quickly gasped and placed her hands over her mouth.
"Damian?" Raven said weakly. She had tears brimming at her eyes and she wanted to keep them on for so long.
"Raven, you have made me the best I could ever be. Thanks to you I have gotten to experience true, pure love. I'd never trade it for anything. Nor would I ever wish to forget a day with you. So I'd like to show my appreciation and my love."
She could feel it coming. She knew her answer and all he needed to do was say it.
"Raven... will you marry me and truly make me the happiest man I could ever be?" Damian asked after a long deep breath.
The tears began to roll down her cheeks and she grabbed Damian by the cheeks and pulled him into a passionate and loving kiss. He returned the gesture before needing to part for air.
"Yes! Yes, Damian! Of course I will." Raven all but screamed.
Damian's smile mirrored hers and the happiness he felt was immense. He pulled her into a kiss before leaving his head against hers.
They'd finally found people who love them for who they are and they would never give that up.
"I love you, Raven."
"I love you, Damian."
