She had to look again. She had to look again and again. She lost count of the times she looked. How many times she tested. Retaking it several times, unnecessarily.
Raven was pregnant.
She couldn't believe it. She knew that the last time her and Damian had sex it felt different. Better, but different. She should've made sure. But, she didn't know how to think about this. She was happy, obviously she was happy. Damian though, what would he think?
She had to find a way to tell him. Despite everything in her mind telling her he would not be happy, she had to rise up to the challenge and tell him. He could be having a little boy or girl.
She hadn't thought it possible for her. She was technically a hybrid. Half demon and half human. She supposed that she was a lot more human than demon. Her only demon features were the extra eyes that grew from her forehead when she was angry. Otherwise, it's like they don't even exist. Damian even said once that he couldn't tell that eyes would grow from there from look and feel.
Still, her being pregnant was terrifying and may have unforeseen consequences. The child could have her powers and be out of control. The birth alone could cause a lot of damage. Things could easily go wrong and she wasn't so sure how to handle it.
Raven appeared to be taken from her thoughts as she heard her phone vibrate and her boyfriend's face appear on the screen. It was the only picture she had of his smile that he reserved for her. Would he still smile after this. She would find out as she answered the phone.
"Hi, Dami." Raven said calmly. She had to keep herself in check for a while.
After simply saying that, she knew she couldn't tell him over the phone. He was coming back from a mission and she would rather tell him away from the tower and the nosey occupants.
"Hello, Beloved. How are you doing? You took a while to answer." Damian said. He sounded genuinely concerned and Raven loved that.
"Sorry, I was meditating. Couldn't hear the phone from the other side of the room." She lied. It was sitting right next to her on the side of the bath tub.
"Ok. Just as long as you're alright." Damian stated. Clearly, he was happy from the sound of his voice.
"Yeah... um, Damian, can we meet somewhere before you come back?" Raven asked timidly.
"Uh, sure. Is everything ok? Garfield hasn't set fire to the tower again has he?" Damian asked almost angrily after remembering the last time he came back from a mission. Garfield's shenanigans had really gotten out of hand that day.
"No don't worry. Kori hasn't kept her eyes off of him. I just... I wanna talk to you without the team present. Just quickly before you get home?" Raven asked almost pleadingly.
"I already agreed, Habibti. Don't sound so worried. I'll meet you at the lake?" Damian asked. He knew that a certain location would ease her mind from whatever's bugging her.
The lake near the park they take Titus was a special location for them; it was there that they confessed their feelings for each other almost three years ago. They remembered how comfortable they were there. The time they spent resting there and telling each other just how much they love each other.
"Yeah, that sounds good."
"Good. I'll see you there in twenty minutes."
"Alright. Love you." Raven said.
"Love you too." Damian finished.
Once the call was over Raven got into some fresh clothes. It was early in the morning and she had only brushed her teeth. She didn't know what to wear, it just had to have pockets for the test.
She made her way there in her classic leather jacket and long T-shirt. She wore a short skirt as usual and used the jacket pocket to hide the test.
She saw Damian sitting beside the lake. One thing they always loved about that lake was how clean it was. Raven had to resist the temptation to push him in. She didn't quite have the nerve at that point though.
Damian invited her to sit beside her, she did to happily and they warmly embraced each other while having a warm and short kiss.
"You ok? You're shaking." Damian asked. He held Raven as if to stop her shaking, but really it was just to reassure her.
"Yeah, um... You said you'll never leave me right? You made that promise?" Raven asked shyly.
"Yeah I did. And I meant it. You said the same thing remember?"
"Yeah and you will be there for me?"
"Do I really have to remind you?" Damian asked almost smugly. "Raven, where is this going?"
Raven sighed deeply and pulled out the pregnancy test. She saw Damian take a proper long look and go wide eyed. She starting getting paranoid and thought he was going to get up and leave.
Instead, Damian picked Raven up bridal style and spun around with her in his arms. His smile was as wide as ever and Raven began to share that smile as she wrapped her arms around his neck. He kissed her so hard that Raven thought she was going to faint until she returned the intensity.
"Am I really gonna be a father?" Damian asked desperately.
"Yes, yes you are. We'll be a mother and father." Raven said excitedly. She was always happy if he was. "We need to think about this and be careful tho." Raven said seriously as she stood eye level with him.
"I know, we will. As long as you're happy and we do our best we'll be fine." Damian said confidently.
Raven smiled and placed her hand against his cheek, stroking it slowly. Damian leaned into the touch and closed his eyes for a moment.
"I love you." Raven stated simply yet lovingly.
"I love you too." Damian replied in the same way.
"I can't wait to meet our child."
