For once in the tower, it was peaceful. For once it was quiet. For once there was no crime for anyone to deal with, no need to leave, no need to trouble over anything.
Damian kept telling himself that he should take advantage of the situation and try and actually rest and not act like a machine. Be a bit human. Even if it was just for one day.
Then again, machines didn't feel what he felt. They didn't feel his attraction to the mysterious empath of the team. His best friend. Machines didn't think about the things he did all the time.
The pounding of his heart increasing every time she was close. Every time she just casually touched him. Every time they locked eyes and he could see those beautiful amethyst jewels that were her eyes.
Standing up from his chair, Damian made a decision. He needed to let it out, he needed to tell her how he felt. But... what if she didn't reciprocate his feelings? What if she just wanted to remain friends? Sure he was fine with that but that's not what he wanted. He would never force anything but he felt rejection was not something to come back from easily with their friendship.
Leaving his room and making his way to hers he thought. He thought more and more until he decided he needed to stop thinking. He needed to just do. He spent his whole life thinking, calculating and learning. None of that would be useful here. This was yes or no.
He hesitated to knock on her door. Until, he heard what sounded like sniffling. Like crying. Was she crying? What happened? Why didn't she come and get him? He had always comforted her and he was shocked that she didn't seek his help. Then again he didn't know the situation.
Knocking at the door, he sought to find out what was happening and fix it if he could. "Raven? Can I come in?"
She said nothing. She just kept crying and crying. His guilt overtook him and before he could stop himself, he entered her room.
He saw her on her bed laying away from the door. She clearly didn't want to be seen. He never understood why. He thought she was beautiful and he was sure she should take pride in her appearance. Crying was different though. He hadn't considered that.
"Raven, are you alright?" Damian asked as he sat on her bed next to her.
"Don't look at me." Was all he heard her mumble. He couldn't do that even if he wanted to.
"But I'm here to see you. I want to know if you're alright and I want to help if not." Damian put simply. He had to try and remain as normal as possible. He couldn't give away the fact he actually came here to confess his feelings.
"Why would you want to see me? Why would anyone want to see me?" Raven asked rhetorically.
Slowly, Damian understood what was happening. A problem occurred earlier that same week with press. After a battle, the Titans had a lot of press swarming them. Raven had to use her demon side during the fight and she was angry. So when a reporter came sup to her, she got angry and displayed her four eyes.
Needless to say everyone was petrified and quickly left. Even the criminals had taken s break out of fear of Raven.
"You shouldn't care what they think. I know what happened was not ideal and was a bad experience, but they don't understand." Damian tried his best to look at her and she was slowly showing herself. He could see her eyes now and his nerves were already taking effect.
"I just want someone to look at me and not think about how ugly I am." Damian had enough of her berating herself for her appearance and he mumbled something to himself that was a little too loud for his liking.
"You're the furthest thing from ugly." Raven had heard that and looked at him with shock in her eyes. Honestly she wanted that someone to be Damian. She understood her feelings for him and wanted to go beyond friendship with him. After that incident, she dismissed any hope she had of that happening, however.
"Raven... can I please see you? Properly?" Damian shyly asked. He was shy. That was new.
Raven silently complied and sat up from her bed and looked him directly in the eyes. They melted down his walls and now he could finally say what he wanted to say.
"You know... I've always found you attractive. Physically and... otherwise."
"What are you getting at?" Raven asked m, confused.
"Please let me say it. If my courage goes now I'll never forgive myself."
Raven couldn't quite understand but nodded in compliance regardless.
"I've always been drawn to you. Something about you just seemed... right. And now I know what's going on and have accepted it and I want it." Damian's face softened from his serious look. He was allowing himself to be truly vulnerable and Raven know it.
"I'm in love with you."
Raven barley let him finish before she kissed him, slowly, gently. She had felt it. Once the defences were down she knew. She was happy, so happy and finally realised that someone wanted her, loved her and accepted her.
"I know. I feel it now and I never did before. Which is why I can comfortably say I'm in love with you too." Raven confessed. She had a genuine smile on her face and allowed one tear to fall down her cheek. The one tear she had that meant she was happy.
"Raven..."
"What now then, Boy Wonder?" Raven replied in her amusing tone. At least she was alright now as well.
"I want to be with you. I want to know what you're going through and help. I want to love you like normal people love each other. To kiss you, hug you... everything." Damian replied truthfully. He didn't mean to be so forward but he didn't know what else to say.
"You want us to be a couple." Raven simplified with a laugh.
"Yes. I-if that's what you want too?" Damian was a nervous wreck and he couldn't help but feel... well not great but good at the same time.
"I do. I want us to be a couple." Raven answered sincerely.
The two leaned in for another kiss and a hug after. They stayed like that for the longest time before Damian spoke up again.
"Raven, I..."
"You?"
"You know." Damian said with a smile.
"I know. Me too." Raven replied with that same smile. The genuine loving one.
